Gregs 2000 Honda Civic has a little oil consumption problem, replaced the pcv valve, plugs and scraped the distributer and polished the rotor, changed the oil and ran the vacumn lines out. I am pretty sure he had a bad pcv, the ball and spring were not even moving, and the folks at Team Honda didnt replace anything on the last tuneup, was eating a quart or two every other week, so I think the PCV is sucking it from the crankcase into the intake manifold. Any how, if it had bad rings or valve guides that would explain the heavy fresh black carbon on his old plugs, and the gap went from 40 to about 70 thousandths on the original plugs, now this is a 1.6 engine so it isnt a racing car, but it is odd. I think when the engine gets above 3 grand the oil is coming in past the PCV or the valve guides, what do yall think?

Does the car smoke all the time when running even at idle, if so then it's probly rings,if it smokes just when started, and puffs smoke "after you accelarate and let off the gas" then it's valve stem seals.Does this car have a EGR valve if it does then the egr system could be full of carbon and not working properly. Why didn't the Honda shop replace the bad items on the last tune-up??? You should get your money back from that, sounds funky thats for sure.

like no smoke comes out
and the carbon on the rings was a build up after 4 years, it wasnt heavy carbon though... definitely not much at all... and a compression test was flawless, so rings aren't a question. what is the egr valve?
I just dont think it burnt up that much oil... as the plugs werent bad and was only a light layer of carbon above the sparking part as there was no carbon on the actualy bottom part of the plug

Hey Greg,
your old hoopie seems to be running pretty good now and you cleaned it out, are you using your car instead of a hotel now?
