Recently, I somehow got my hands on some of their tracks I used to listen back in 1983 ~1984. I remember I talked about the group members with my friends... you know, how great they are, that sort of things. I loved the 'Asia' at that time, especially 'Heat of the moment', actually, entire 1st album.
Listening to these tracks, I feel kind of funny and it does not particularly feel bad. I was in a middle-school. One of my close friends was huge fan. I became one too. Somehow, I stopped listening to them after a while. I don't know or remember why. Probably got bored.
Well, I just want to mention the band in here and babble some.... hehe. It just reminds me of few things from the past. Sometimes, memory is a strange thing I think.
Anyone remember 'Asia'?

I've a feeling this is a set up but yes, I remember Asia well. They were classed as a 'supergroup' with members from different successful bands at the time. I can't remember all the line up but Steve Howe (Yes), Carl Palmer and John Wetton do ring a bell. I bought the first two of their albums mainly because I liked Yes, but I can't remember what happened after that. Looks like I'll be dusting off another couple of old albums now!

Carl Palmer, from Emerson, Lake and Palmer

John Wetton, formerly in King Crimson, together with ex-Yes Bill Brufford. Greg Lake also started with King Crimson, which in the early 80's did some of their best work imo, still featuring BB.

Funny for a band that'd started in 68, had huge success in the mid seventies - and still tours.

Is still touring. Yes, as far as I know. The last 'live' record is from 2001 tours. The last studio record is 2000 or 2001. King Crimson, that is.

I actually picked up Asia's greatest hits a few years back at a yard sale in almost new condition for $2.00. There were several "supergroup" offshoots. I have a tape (can't find a cd) of a group that Steve Howie formed in the late '80s called GTR. They only scored one real hit, When the Heart Rules the Mind. Yes started up a band using the last names of most of the original members minus one or two in the early '90s. IMHO though, one of the best albums to come early in that era was one done by Jon & Vangelis called The Friends of Mr. Cairo. Jon Anderson and Vangelis teamed up to bring a fantastic album rock about old gangster movies which has to be heard to appreaciate. If you are a fan of Yes or Anderson I recommend it. Note to self, pull out Yes, Asia, Jon & Vangelis and GTR give another listen to.
