IDE OR SATA what would be the best ? need some questions answered :P buying today.
Ok guys i have never used a SATA hdd before
now i have a few questions
how much faster are they over IDE HDD`s ?
also are they easy to Install ?
here are a few im thinking about getting.
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120GB SATA 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-016-MD)
or
Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 120GB 1200JD SATA 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-009-WD)
what one would be the best out of those 2 ?
or if i was to go IDE
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120GB ATA-133 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-013-MD)
or
Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 120GB 1200JB ATA-100 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-001-WD)
now if i was to go the Sata way could i install and run this HDD singley ? meaning not raided ? or would it be raided ? see i havent got the cash for 2 so would 1 still work ?
also what would be the best to go for ? are the SATA`s much faster than there IDE counter parts ?
and finaly how do you install em lol
is it hard ?

currently the speeds will not differ much at all, and installation may be slightly more easy with SATA, due to the smaller cables.
But you will need a driver disk if you are going to install windows from scratch

They are slightly faster tha IDE, I have the maxtor drive and it's fast. Installation is very easy, it's very nice to get rid of those clumsy IDE cables. If I were you I would go for the SATA.
DJ,
about the driver disk, I'm not sure about that, I didn't need any driver disk for that.

The newer PSU has SATA Power connectors already, but if thats is not the case with your PSU, you just need to buy those. Some drives actually has both traditional power and also SATA.

I've also thought about going SATA for my next drive. However I got the NF7, not the NF7-s, so I think I would need a controller card to get sata going on my rig.... SATA drives aren't much more expensive, it makes sense to get one..

I like WD hard drives, I've always had good luck with them, but no experience with SATA, so maybe someone else could answer that part But you can't go wrong with Western Digital...

I think you've made the right choice, the drive is fast, not really as fast as the Raptor but it's fast.

Yeah they are both great drives, I'm going to be picking one up soon, I'm still stuck on this TINY 40gig!
I'm constantly having to delete things and uninstall things to install new games- not fun -
