i don't think that's possible..... reallly... Phone lines don't carry a high enough voltage or amperage to do antyhing of that nature

look at the stuff on the bottom fo the case...it appears to have eploded a capacitor or 2....that would do that to a mouse easy

PCI slots have full voltage going to them, that's plenty of juice to fry a mouse- especially if the pointy ends of a solder joint stuck into the skin. Like sticking a toaster in the bathtub to a mouse--

PCI provides 12 volts, and I don't suppose the mouse was wearing any metal objects.
The line, I believe, provides about 80 volts with limited current, and a rather more potent jolt of 50v AC for the ringer.
Perhaps there was a lightning strike nearby - a direct hit would be more devastating, but an induced voltage can fry a modem - and a mouse if unlucky enough to be in contact with it.
Another possibilty, if there was an earth fault, leaving the rest of the PC (except the line isolator side of the modem) at significantly higher potential, then if a mouse (or person) came into contact with both, it could be nasty.

nasty! and pci slots do carry enough voltage to fry a mouse - the phone line wouldn't have done it!

well i just recall fixing a computer that had a family of mice in it... and they crawled all over the cars and whatnot... and none of them burnt.... although i agree it was a fire hazard as they could have started chewing into some pcb or wires.....
