Spy ware just got worse... welcome to "Extortion Ware"

Quote:
From http://www.spywareguide.com/product_show.php?id=514

Full Name: Virtual Bouncer
Type: Generic Malware
Also Known as: spywarelabs
Created by: Spyware Labs, Inc.

Official Description: Claims to be an adware remover.
Comment: It drive-by installs, phones home after install, gives itself the right (in the EULA) to download and install software from its servers, and you have to *pay them* for a "subscription" with a credit card to have it removed, then opt out of having the "subscription" automatically renewed.

Because you must pay to have it removed, some have dubbed this "extortion ware".

Information URL: http://www.virtualbouncer.com/

# Properties: Stealth Tactics
# Stays Resident
Manual removal: Can sometimes be removed by using Add/Remove programs from the control panel.

Otherwise, an uninstaller is available at:

http://www.spywarelabs.com/VirtualBouncerUninstall.exe
Removal tools: List of products that detect/remove/protect against Virtual Bouncer:
# X-Cleaner
# RegBlock
I'd never haerd of this junk before they really need to get this spyware under control. Who knows what else has this nasty spyware inside...

Sorry guys, I mean to post about this earlier. The line between Spyware and virus has been abolished. And this extortion-ware is another example of how illegal this stuff is and how the U.S. Government isn't doing shit about it. They will though.... they will when secrutiy has been comprimised. They are great at re-acting.

doesnt mater it's still spreading, its loaded in the new legal kazza lite etc

I've seen some nasty stuff to stuff that come with an uninstaller that you can remove it from the add remove aplications other wise you'd never known it was there ...

undetected by anything!

when you try to remove it it comes up with a kinda like a bot / script defeater...
kinda like how the make you enter a line of distoted text on some websites like when you sign @ yahoo or somthing. like a distorted collored set of 10 numbers and letters you have to type in as the password to uninstall.

it's listed as anti spyware... a spware remover

Quote:
VIRTUAL BOUNCER
Virtual Bouncer is the first software product from Spyware Labs. It is a free utility that will search your hard drive for spyware and let you know if it finds any. If it does, you can remove the spyware yourself or subscribe to Virtual Bouncer to have malicious files automatically removed from your computer.

We decided to develop Virtual Bouncer because we believe that EVERY COMPUTER CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET SHOULD HAVE SPYWARE DETECTION TOOLS ON IT. At the present time, most do not. As a result, the overwhelming majority of Internet users do not have the level of protection that they should have in order to engage in online banking, online shopping and other online activities.

The first release of Virtual Bouncer is now available and future versions are under development. It is, of course, always a work-in-progress, and we appreciate any feedback that you have. Although we don't have a chance to respond to all feedback personally, it is all reviewed and taken into account in future versions of our product.

That is just friggin nasty ignorant. People need to know this. I will say it here and Now. I contacted Bill Oreilly twice without any response. I can't make these people take notice. I'm afraid they will when it is too late though.

thx for the info, more reason not to trust \ install anything, which kind of loses a big idea in the net

its always depressing how things are only done once a problem becomes out of control

i got this a week ago, spybot s&d can get rid of it though (it worked for both me and my housemate), didnt realise it was something new. had this thing saying spyware had infected my pc and i should use virtual bouncer to get rid of it, i sensed something was amiss, ran spybot and it flagged up this virtual bouncer thing. it was listed under add/remove programs but this doesnt remove it completely and itll come back so use spybot (or something similar, but its free and v good) to get rid of it

Don't know if you have seen this about the state of Utah and it's anti spyware legis they are implementing. I understand several other states are considering laws similar to this. Problem is the state of VA has spam laws, I live here and still get *numerous* amount of spam . Hopefully these type of laws will help to alleviate problems with malware but I doubt it.
