Good Music: Reanimation
Words can barely convey how excited I was to see a new Linkin Park CD on the shelf of the local store. I picked it up and it was, to my dismay, a CD of "reinterpretations" -- remixes. Well, that didn't sound all that great to me, but I picked it up anyway.
I love it.
This CD is all I need musically. I love Linkin Park, but some of their songs are, admittedly, lyrically simple. "Reanimation" not only contains impressive musical remakes of their previous songs, but wonderfully revamped lyrics. Some of the original verses are reworded and rewritten, and almost every song on the album has a totally new verse. Most of these new verses are delivered by guest rappers (Pharoahe Monch, Motion Man, Chali 2na, et al.), but there are a few rockers onboard, too (Jonathan Davis, Aaron Lewis).
Anyway, if you like Linkin Park, you will love this CD. If you like rap, you will love this CD. If you like rock, you'll probably like this CD. But, really, if you like music, you'll love this CD. I don't typically like remixed tracks, but some of the songs here are better than the originals.
It gets my Pawprint of Approval.

They just rehashed their songs for a new cd? That's horrible. It's bad enough they were milking money off of their first cd for five years or so, but then they go and re-release it under a different name with some added crap? That's kind of pathetic. I would repsect them more if they would just go out and make some new songs.

Yeah i would have to agree with malus about the fact that all they did was remake them. But i loved the first CD and i will probably buy the the second too. There new music video is tight as hell also.

One thing I've noticed about many of your comments as of late, Malus, is that they are generally more belligerent than they need to be or is appropriate for the section they are posted in.
I was wondering how long it'd take someone to post something to the tune of "that CD is lame, I heard they were all remixes." I don't much like remixes. I was expecting this CD to be the original tracks with some ridiculous beats in the backgrounds and some scratching. I was very pleasantly surprised. This CD is a work of art.
Anyway, the eternal concept of "to each his own," applies, but I'd like to make a few comments regarding your reply. Firstly, Hybrid Theory came out in October of 2000, which was little less than two years ago. Secondly, the tracks on this CD are as much a "rehash of old songs" as the Toyota Prius* is a rehash of the Ford Model T. Like I said, most of the tracks have been rewritten, skillfully remade, and contain completely original verses. The remake of "Forgotten" is completely unlike the original. "Crawling" with Aaron Lewis is a thousand times more emotionally powerful than the original. A lot of tracks are either indistinguishable from, or just plain better than the originals.
I am by no means an adept analyzer of music, but I listen to the CDs I critique.

A cd of remixes is by definition lame. I'm talking Fifth season night court lame. However that's not to say that there could be some good stuff on there. But releasing remixes of your old music is quite lazy. I don't like linkin park's music though so I doubt I'll be listening to this disc any time soon.

I did like their first CD. However, after some time I grew tired of it. Linkin Park to me is just Back Street Boys w/ guitars. I would have to hear this CD (hope it's heavier) to know if I like it or not. BTW, the new Papa Roach CD is pretty good too.
Speaking of remixes....
The Fear Factory remixes were pretty good.

I didn't think my comment was too bad. However, I'll try to be a little nicer next time.

There seems to be no more respect for music no matter what you do.. The remixes for this album were not done by linkin park but by other people and then they were submitted to linkin park and the record label decided t release it because linkin park was taking too long (more than 1 year) to come out with a completely new album. I have also listened to the album and was quite suprised it is not the best but still it is good. If you guys wanna here some good music I have just picked up the latest CD by thrice it is a great punk album which I listened to 10 times in a row. It has a perfect combination of hardcore metal like stuff and slow emo stuff, it is right now the all around best album i own, not one bad song.. if this interests u i suggest u pick it up NOW

Remixes a great because wwhat happens when u record a song and then say man i wish i did this differently.. then u do a remix then your r like yes i did it differently.. but his is not how linkin park did it, its pretty much completely new songs built over the old ones. I personally like doing little changes in different songs that I have written.. but i am also bad at writing music.. so does it really matter

man if really listin to the cd then you would relize that the all those songs were pretty much recomposed and redo and revised. And that in my opinon is pretty much a new cd with songs no a remix.

The CD's good, however I like the originals better. The remix of PTS.OF.ATHRTY is better than the first I think.
