Default Post Research.

I've been pulling together a research paper for my english class. I've been scanning through various websites etc... on the pharmacological/pharmaceutical industry.

Some things are just horrible:

Sigh

106,000 deaths/year from nonerror, adverse effects of medications
If 106,000 people died this year from faulty cars (Bad brakes, wheel lock, anything)... there wouldn't be a trace left of any car manufacturer, instantly!! Yet despite the fact that people use cars much more frequently than they are treated with medication (which makes this number the more horrifying) very little has been done against companies such as Novartis (makers of Ritalin).

Your thoughts?

Default Post That's nothing!

Did you see the "Healthcare Reform" bill the Senate almost passed last week?!? It would have continued the legal practice of drug companies giving cash kickbacks to doctors for recomending certain drugs over others...based on cost & profit over health concerns! (Don't feel bad if you didn't hear about it, I only knew about it 'cause my wife was so outraged she spent a good part of the week spamming our congressmen.)

Yeah, i think that a majority of US (the public) are uninformed about issues such as the Patients Bill of Rights. :/

I know that they make you sign waviers when you test these drugs but i think that companys should really test these products before they start to try it on people http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/uni...t/bloodcancer/ i mean 20 people dead? You'd think that would have stoped theses things after that and that the goverment would have stiffer plentys and conditions on these.

I think that we put a lot of faith in the medical proffession. It is important, however, to understand that there is a "for-profit" industry behind the Doctors and that we should regulate it much more... for example the way we regulate firearms or cars. Afterall... these people have our lives in their hands. :/
