Everyone... SHOULD HAVE APC

Well.. not everyone... but if you have what.... $40+ US.. or $80+ canadian ... you should get a good apc battery backup unit... with line cleaning... over/undersurge protection.... and 10-15 minutes of battery backup time.... (actually they all now come with 30-45+ minutes)

Everyone considers oversurges.... everyone buys a simple power bar... with oversurge protection....

But what about the undersurges.... or unclean power.... (small enough spikes in power that it doesn't trigger surge protection...but strong enough to take years of your electronics)

APC.. and many other companies out there.... provide very affordable solutions.... it only gets expensive if you want to add to backup time.... to features.... or to the number of backuped/fully protected units..

http://www.apc.com/

please... just take a browse around..

Here's a direct link to the backup units..

>HERE<

Also.... i might add... i've use a 350/500/725 (basically... the higher the number.. the more minutes... the more protected features... including cable/eithernet/dialip phone line) and 500 and up have a USB connected cable.. that will tell you how charged up the battery is... how long you have.... when you can tell the thing to start beeping ... and when to shutdown if the power time left is at the selected...

I'm going to be picking up the Back-UPS RS 1000VA pretty soon....

Brown outs totally kill electronics... hard on them then anything.. short of feeding it more power then it's saposed to....

My apc unit has detected a pile of things that are wrong in the power.... which is switches over to battery for short periods of time till the condition is gotten under control.... life saver.... you wouldn't believe the number of times it's done this..

Sure.. power bars will work... but these things are really handy..... adds alot of life to your machine...

They are the sweetest... i've had mine since before 1999.... batties last a long bloody time... i've recommend them to many people here.. and elseware.... and the warranty on them is amazing.... some of the cheap ones are $25,000 warranty... if there unit wasn't or didn't do it's job..... the Back-UPS RS 1000VA has a $150,000 warranty... but damn straight... as it's gonna cost me $250ish

Also.... what's the point of building a dream machine.... it's kind of similare to a PSU... or Monitor... nobody really thinkgs of them... but there are the most important parts of a computer..... power being the MAIN thing of all... it's important to give a machine good solid.. reliable clean power.... or else your asking for trouble...... also.... the cheap suckers are really really nice for simple servers...
