Can anyone please explain to me what folding is?

I'm curious...

How do you participate?

I've been folding for about 1.25 years now. I fold for Extreme Overclocking forums.

Basically, it's just a small program that runs in the background and uses all unused CPU cycles. Basically it crunches some numbers and molecules and crap like that. F@H is gonna eventually help to possibly find cures to some cancer and things of the such.

The United Devices Agent is a similar system - Original target was (and still is) cancer research, but during the Gulf War runup, they were also looking at anthrax - amid anger from those seeing that as war-related research, they introduced an opt-out from that part of the workload.
