Steph's Computer
hey all, i am having a problem with steph's computer. I have been building her a PC as a surprise for the past two weeks. Well, the other night, i shut it down like usual and then when i went to work on it again in the morning, it wouldn't boot up. i didn't change any cables, nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

how old is the mobo? cmos battery maybe? or would the computer just not start at all? more details man! if it is a matter of no POST then check the RAM and the Video card first. also it wouldn't hurt to clear the cmos. i know it seems like it is just a popular answer "clear your cmos" but it works... so hey.

Hard drive failure maybe. I didn't quite follow what you said in your earlier post. The fans power up? If there's power and its just the HD you should be able to disconnect it and then boot to the BIOS screen.
In these situations the only thing you can do is start removing or swapping out components until it works.

Well if the Fans power up, and nothing else it would be the CPU IMHO..
IT is weird that it run before, but there is always the change, can you try that cpu in an other rig ??

Maybe you've been a victim of that big ass solar flare that just hit
Feel for you though. I went through something similar with my PSU. It just decided to pack it in one day. Cracked it open and didn't see anything obviously wrong with it. Just decided, "Today is a good day to retire"
One thing you could check on your mobo though is to see if you have any blown capacitors. A few years back a whole big batch of them were made that weren't quite up to spec. and had a tendency to blow. Just in case you're bored or something.

ok neon try this its a long shot ... but it has happened to me remove your power cable then remove your cpu keep the fan attached to the power reattach power cable to power supply ... turn the pc on (as in boot) switch off psu and remove the power cable again then insert the cpu , put the fan back on attach your power cable on to your psu again and reeboot ... the problem you get is the same i get when i buy a new heatsink and fan or a new power supply ... give a try buddy
