Hurricane Juan on track for Halifax

From CNN:

"Rain and wind warnings remained in effect for Nova Scotia and hurricane-force wind warnings continued for the waters surrounding the province, according to the center. The eye of the hurricane is expected to be near the coast of Nova Scotia by Sunday evening.

At 5 a.m. EDT, Juan was still a Catagory 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph (165 kmh). Category 2 hurricanes have winds of at least 96 mph.

The fifth hurricane of the Atlantic season was centered about 485 miles (785 kilometers) south of Halifax, Nova Scotia, moving north-northeast at near 12 mph (19 kmh). "

So if you don't see me tonight you know why !!!!!!

so far all is good, it is not supposed to hit until around 5:00 PM AST. It should be interesting to say the least....

..if it isn't to bad yet.... i recommend you gather what you can out side... and bring it into the house... we had a blow wind in saskatchewan that blew over 5 ton tool trucks.... and plucked 6 foot trees from the ground.... now watching a plastic full size chair come flying at you.. (even though your on the other side of the window)... make you wonder if there the chance that the boat that was behind the chair.... might decide to make a go of it...... (btw, ever see a tornado make a knot out of a eves troth and then take the center beam of a house..and throw it through a house boat...and 2 feet into the soil... here's the interesting thing... we have a cabin 15 feet from that place..... all that happened to our house.... is shake a few things.... and nock over one of our plastic T-rex glow in the dark models.... You shoulda seen the look on all of our faces!

..... not chit I can do about it either except ride it out

Hurricane Juan is now packing winds of up to 165 km/h as it heads for Nova Scotia.

George Parks, a forecaster at the Canadian Hurricane Centre in Dartmouth (where i live), says Juan will likely arrive in the Mahone Bay area late this evening.

Parks says some areas in Juan's path could receive up to 80 mm of rain.

All of Nova Scotia is under a heavy rainfall warning, while high wind warnings have been issued throughout Nova Scotia, PEI and eastern New Brunswick

Well it's starting to get damm windy here, they have issued evacuation orders for areas within 5 miles of here that are on the coastline...they say we are about 1 hour from landfall

The evacuation, part of a local state of emergency, was started around 8 p.m. EDT by officials in the Halifax Regional Municipality as winds picked up and rain started to fall.

The Halifax area was expected to bear the brunt of the storm.

``We're looking for full impact in Halifax County here with the conditions,'' said Peter Bowyer, program manager of the Canadian Hurricane Centre in Dartmouth, N.S.

``We think it's pretty serious. There hasn't been a direct hit of hurricane-force winds with a tropical system like this in Halifax for many, many years.''

Forecasters have said Juan will likely uproot trees, flood coastal areas and cause widespread blackouts throughout much of Nova Scotia.

Mike Myette, deputy director of the province's Emergency Measures Organization, said it wasn't known how many people would be affected by the evacuation in coastal spots such as Lawrencetown and Sheet Harbour

Well it was a serious storm to say the least...I still have no power @ home but I should have some nice pics of the damage that Juan left behind.....Everyone I know is safe but trees took a serious beating.....

Hey Chaos - I'm in Dartmouth. It was a pretty wild night. We have power in my neighborhood, but unfortunately I drove my car into a flash flood and killed my engine.

In addition to what Judas said, take off the distributor cap (if there is one) and dry out the insides. You can use a can of compressed air to do this.
