??? Is DH losing it's technical appeal

I have seen some post's of late that make me want to ask the question.......Is DH losing it's technical visitors and if so why?

I don't really find it's lost it's technical side, I just think of it in these terms.... Many of us came her as n00b's in many ways but each of us brought something to the table that was useful by someone else. As time passed and membership increased the know how off the group grew quite quickly, to the point that most techie related issue's seem like much less of a challange to the core members.... so intrest levels drop off....we also tend to post our own techie related item more internally by using the PM sytem available to us all, which in turn is bound to reduce the number of technical posts showing up in the fourms....Perhaps it's time for an influx of new members, with questions we can all attempt to answer with a response that is the level of quality that made us come back in the first place

It's really starting to lose me on technical appeal. No offense to anyone on here, but like, seriously, this place doesn't have the appeal that it once did. It has nothing technical like xtremesystem.org or extremeoverclocking. I dunno. I guess I'm the reason you made this post Chaos. Whatever, no one seems to agree with me on this one. But I know when I came here there was soooooo much more technical content.

i think the majority of the reasons are that of people still being on vacation.... possibly over time work durring the summers..... people wanting to be outside... i'm not really sure...

It's because we got connected. Most of us here are friends now, and as such we do more social posting because it's what we'd do with friends.

But here's the deal..... I can hear knowing a fair amount, then I learned a lot more. I still want to know more, and many technical things are not discussed here as they used to be.

I think if you ask the right question you might just get the right answers

We can be as technical as we want to be..Many of us are comfortable with various aspects of our own interests and it isn't necessary to be terribly technical to resolve problems or learn anything...I like DH because I hate the pretentious cyber elitists that place their egos and self indulgent concerns into an orbit above others....I have over twenty years of experence with computers but I don't like throwing it around anymore, why alienate others? I have found really cool and helpful people here...regardless of their skill level, and that comradery is what I enjoy the most.

I personally have alot of knowledge on networking systems and building home PC's. I also love to share my knowledge with people and to help them the best I can. I will every now and then drop my knowledge on this board but I will admit hesitation to do so at times. I have been "bit" by a few of the members not just on this site but on others. Told more times then not that I have no idea what I am talking about even if I prove my knowledge. No this is not a sob story or a way to ask for anyone's help. I am just answering why I myself stay back with some technical help and knowledge. Hell one of the first threads I answered here I was criticitezed and told that I was only here for my 10 posts to win the ATI card DH was giving away...... funny...... 200+ posts and I am still here...... But anyways..... this site is a great site for help and technical disscusions...... just I think when some people get "bit" for sharing their knowledge or experiance it shy's potential people away from helping. ....... Just my 2 cents......

It's not that I'm a cyber elitist or anything of the such. Whatever, I just can't express how I feel in words. I've been talking about how I felt for over the last 4 months but I just can't get it out.

i have not been at this site as long as most of you but in the relatively short time i have been here i have seen some lessening of tech related materiel.
could just be a normal part of forums. have seen this type of thing happen at other sites. sometimes they stay down, most of the time, if it is a good site(& this place is very good), some sort of catalyst happens & things start rolling.
this type of thing is usually due to a combination of people doing other things, nothing really major happening to anybody & any other number of factors. the other thing you have is, in general, a lot of the tech problems we have all experienced over the years have been ironed out & dealt with & are pretty much gone. new ones are cropping up, but not like they used to. i think this is going to change in a few months. got pci exprees coming out, intel cpu with 103 w heat, amd 64 with win support, ddr2(that already sounds like a nightmare), gaming problems(hardware related) seem to be coming more prevalent- again, the whole ati/nvidia thing should get really interesting, & any number of things i know nothing about.
i guess what i am trying to say, in an overly long way is it is just cyclical, hang in there, & please keep reading & responding. i know when i get all my new stuff delivered in 2-3 weeks i am going to need help. got no ddr experience whatsoever(& i am really anal about ifne tuning everything to eke out that last bit of performance. thank god there is people here that understand & are not as.....s about it.
all will be well my children.

I think alot of the people who say there arent as many technical aspects to the site have either moved onto hardcore overclocking which is better dealt with on other sites.....I never made the claim that DH was a hardcore overclocking site anyway. We are primarily a driver support site branching into other aspects of hardware and tech discussion, hence comparing the names "driverheaven" to "extremeoverclocking", kind of aims for two different fields . If this site and its core staff start trying to cover 100 bases then the content will suck, meaning the stuff we are good at and started the site for will start to suffer.

Incidentally a short while ago Wyre did a good tutorial on modding the 9500, that is driver related and while not being immensely technical has helped alot of people and got major hits. We have also gotten alot of hardware reviews done along with interviews and editorials

Those who feel there isnt enough technical discussion anymore, then use your keyboard and start something, be pro-active. We have overclockers who come here, why not start threads "helping" people instead of complaining or passing comment when its quite apparent to me, the people who came here at the start who knew very little have vastly increased their knowledge and are now posting more often in the off topic making friends.

Could it just be the fact that its summer. Theres not a lot of new hardware out at the moment and games releases has been poor this year. Just wait till autumn and watch this place become populated again.

this should NEVER happen and should be reported, we pride ourselves that this forum is friendly and welcome new people, new people who while having 1 post might have 20 years of experience. if this EVER happens please report it to a moderator with a thread link. The moderators cant read everything that is posted on DH, unfortunately.

well probably because when driver heaven first started out their was only a handfull of forums , now that their is over 20 plus sections/forums in driverheaven , it seems like their is fewer techie things going on but in reality their is a lot of stuff , its just diluted over the other forums ... hell i jioned a month after DH was born , i would go as far to say driverheaven is better than ever , thanks to Zardon and his excellent team of moderators .... this place is happening

Although a releative newcomer to DH I appreciate the site as somewhere I can find technical info and help if I need it, give a little back if I know the answers (not as often as I'd like lol!) and discuss almost anything under the sun if the mood takes me. I have recently had to cut down on my online time and have stopped visiting a lot of boards I used to...DH is now 1 of just 2 I still visit everyday...

The moderators ideally read every thread in their sections, though many now don't have the time to read every post in every thread but instead read the most important stuff, and the best thing you can do to help us is to use the Report to a Moderator link, since then we don't have to dig it up and possibly risk not finding the post or even knowing about it should we miss it.

I don't really want to rake over the old guests argument, but maybe losing the occasional/regular guests reduced the potential new blood?

Is the forum getting old perhaps?

We came get technical fixes, stayed to chat, and then grumble about the lack of technolgy and leave?

The answer? - bring your technical problems, ask more questions.....

I'd bring more..but

This site is more AMD to me. I come here for more AMD related stuff. This site was very technical oriented in the earlier days when SP1 leaks, ATI driver leaks and overclocking was very popular here. Rage3D's Hardware Section to me is more appealing to me for some odd reason. I guess it's the fact that there are so many people there, you would get a hasty response. For my Intel help needs, I go to ABXZone, which in my opinion is an excellent forum for Intel help. The lack of technical questions being asked could be contributed to the fact that this site like Zardon mentioned was more of a "Driver Support" site and I guess that is what people see it as. Not to mention that Rage3D is also a Driver Support site as well. I don't post here much anymore, but I do visit for the news Go Dom and NewsFactory!
