My FL friend wanted me to pass this along:
Her friend, Bella, Sasha's grandmother, just wants to express her immense gratitude to everyone who offered prayers, sent e-mails, cards, and even gave a few moments to think of Sasha and her family over the past week and a half. She is still overwhelmed that so many people from all over the world would take time out to share their feelings with people whom they'd never met.
While Sasha is definitely NOT out of the woods yet, they do feel a huge corner has been turned and have every hope of a successful outcome.
I, too, just want to say how grateful I am for the response of so many friends here at DH who jumped on this and helped lift up this family in need. To me, this is a prime example of the BEST of the Internet.
Thanks to all of you!

First off I feel bad that this is the first I have seen this post.... Guess my scanning through isn't always deep enough into the boards.... Second, when I read this post my heart sank so fast my chest hurt.........It tears me apart to see children suffer with things such as this. They are so innocent and at times so unknowing of what is going on..... BUt I must add I am very happy to hear things have gotten better.....and I hope they continue to get better..... my families thoughts and prayers will be with her and her family...... The man upstaris works in mysterious ways...... somtimes it makes us happier then we ever thought we could be and others.....well...better left unsaid...... I hope all continues well.......

AN UPDATE -- 11-4-03
I just received this email from my friend in FL:
"We did get to go to Houston last month to see Sasha. She has so many complications from the chemo, but she is scrappy and beautiful, bald, and a trooper first class. Her 7th birthday was the 22nd and this Sat she has a little party at home - her first time to see her friends since last June. She is on homebound schooling and doing well. This is a pic I took of her in her Halloween kitty outfit, which she insisted on wearing for us. If God continues to be so good, she will need only one more round of chemo, and then might get to go back to school in January. So far the spinal fluid and bone marrow are cancer-free. She obviously has bad days, sores, swollen gums, and other complications that vary, but she really is fighting hard to overcome this and her mother and grandmother have been saints.
Please keep her in your prayers and I will keep you posted."

Glad to hear things are on the mend. Just breaks me to pieces to hear about children suffering. I think of my daughter who is 3 and how undescribable I would feel if she was in a position like this. But like I said, nice to see she is on the mend.... and thanks for the pic... brought tears to my eyes also....

Anyone who sees her picture should never ever complain about anything!!
sometimes people come here and complain about a they cannot play their games,
should look at that picture and shut up!
if she still can laugh, then what are we crying about.

UPDATED: Jan. 31, 2004 --
I just received this email a few moments ago from my FL friend:
"So many of you were kind enough to remember Sasha Dvorak of Houston, now age 7, in your thoughts and prayers last year. In July she was diagnosed with Acute Mylotic Leukemia, AML, the worst possible form of childhood leukemia. She was treated from July-December at Texas Children's Hospital with numerous rounds of chemo, and at last, in early January, her blood count was clear and she was allowed to return to school. These last 3 weeks have been the happiest ever, her grandmother - my dear friend Bella - tells me.
Well, yesterday, during her monthly bone marrow check, they discovered that the leukemia cells have decided to proliferate there. She now must go back to TCH this week to start more chemo (at least two rounds of several days each) and then they will likely use radiation as well to kill off all the bone marrow cells in order to go for a transplant. The good news is, they found a registered donor who matches on 5 of 6 possible points. The scary news is, the donor must still be willing to donate, must be 100% healthy, and Sasha must live in bubble-like conditions for a month at the hospital during the procedure AND not reject the transplanted marrow. If successful, this represents a really good chance for her survival. But your prayers and support are truly needed for the next few months.
Thanks for caring and understanding,"
As you can see, there's a lot to be concerned about. Your continued thoughts and prayers for young Sasha are greatly appreciated!

My prayers go out to Sasha and You and your Families. All of our prayers around the world are like the stars in the night sky, each star represents a special little prayer we all bless her with each and every night. May God bless this beautiful young lady back to health. Stay strong and the love and warmth will follow.
God Bless you Sasha, Dyre...........

I have just received this email with updated....and very alarming....news!
"Things are not really good, we have been in the hospital for two weeks already fighting the infection. With the infection, the risks related to bone marrow transplant, are deadly. They cannot fight it with antibiotics and will perform a surgery removing one or two teeth and possibly some soft tissue of the gum, I pray to God they will not have to go to her sinus which is also under question. In addition to that, her recent blood test showed leukemia cells which means that the last chemo produced no effect. This leaves very few chances but we must hope.Sasha is asleep or napping half of the time since they give her so many drugs, and is weak and tired and passive, not herself at all. Does not eat as you understand. We try to drag her out of bed for a short walk in the hallway. Tonight they transfused white blood cells from a donor, thank God there was not rejection. They will do this for two weeks to boost her ability to fight the infection.
Love, B."
Please offer up some positive thoughts and prayers for this little girl. She needs all the strength we can send her way.
