anybody NOT enter the GeForce 4 giveaway contest?
I'm not anti-nVidia (or at least not as anti-nVidia as some people here ), but I made the decision not to enter the contest. Why would I do that, you may ask yourself? Well, for one, I have no desire to replace my 8500DV (I know the GeForce 4 is more powerful, but that can't make up for all the great features on my AIW that I would lose).
"You could always sell it", you might say. This is true. If I did manage to win, I could sell the card and make myself a little bit of money. But that isn't an option for me, either.
The reason I opted out of this particular giveaway is simple. If I would win, my chances of winning any future contests (and I'd be willing to bet that there will be more in the future) would be slim to none (maybe even none.. I'm not sure if the same person is able to win more than once). So what if the next contest is an AIW 9800 Pro, or an XP 3000+, or something else that I actually *do* want? I'm not going to waste my chances on something I don't want...
Does anybody else agree with my twisted logic? Just curious..

Well I entered I figure I have a friend who likes to come over and play UT 2K3 but he just has a lowly Geforce MX 400 and we want to get him ready for upcoming games UT2K4 and HL2 and we had to buy him that MX 400 a few months ago because he was using the AIW 128 card still
But if we are allowed to win more then one time then statistically we have the same chance of winning in the next competition which is 1 in however many people enter

Statistically, your chances of winning don't change regardless of past wins, and not entering only prevents you from having a chance at winning this one

I didnt enter it either, But only because I have a 9700 Pro! I dont need a GF4, Let someone here who dosent have a nice card enter and win it
And if I were to enter and win, I would have the staff here try and secritly find the most needy person, And give it to them

Its a complex mathematical procedure and I normally keep my methods a secret but as you asked ill tell you --- I write all the names out onto pieces of paper and scatter them around the room, then I purchase 3 bottles of vodka and drink them. I then stand in the middle of the room and walk around until I fall over intoxicated.
When I wake up in the morning, whichever piece of paper (and therefore person) my head is laying on wins the card.
Its a dirty job but someone has to do it

Co-incidentally, I have that same card and it is an excellent allround performer. I can understand the logic of not entering if you already own a top-end card but for anyone who is stuck with a GFMX or similar it is an excellent upgrade. For all you 9700 or 9800 owners it would make an excellent paper-weight as it really is a beautiful piece of engineering.

Hey I can respect anyone's decision not to enter but IMO you should be glad that DH is giving away a free graphics card. Also be thankful that we got it. Besides Zardon loves his vodka!

Oh I'm very thankful that Driverheaven is so generous, but I still say the chances of winning more than once are less than the chances of winning at all. If I roll a pair of dice, what are the chances that I'll roll a 7? What are the chances that I'll roll a 7 twice in a row? What are the chances that I'll roll a 7 twenty times in a roll? The odds lessen, I'm pretty sure.
Though I never was very good at statistics and probability...

I'd have to go with this train of thought. We could ALWAYS use extra hardware for a 'hand-me-down' rig as we upgrade older ones. The card would be useful in a leftover 'pieces-parts' system. The last Nvidia card I messed with was a GeForce 2 in a friend's PC that I reformatted for him. It would be interesting to get a little more experience with a newer Nvidia card, even if I don't really care for Nvidia products (their NForce motherboards are quite nice though).
I entered.

I entered for hand me down benefit
I entered for my bro. He's got a 9100 and the Ti-4200 would be a nice lil upgrade. If he doesn't like it, we'll sell it and get a new CPU for him or something. NVidia Ti-4200 was the card of choice for bang/buck ratio back when ATI didn't have the 9500 PRO yet.

well, if it is true that you can only win once as per DH rules, then your logic does make sense.
i was actually pretty suprised the first time i saw the contest on the DH front page. THought it was a typo since that card seems pretty old...or old compared to the hardware they usually talk about.
at any rate, i'm glad u didn't enter...not that i ever win anything..one less person to take the prize i'll never get

Whatchu talkin bout Willis ?
I entered the contest not because I want to replace my current Built By 9500 Pro
But to have a chance and win that card... and do what? SELL IT.
Sell it so I have enough money for a new mobo/cpu or mobo/vid card cooler combo's.
