What did you think of it?


I'm gonna see it on opening day in IMAX (it has Imax filmed scenes like Dark Knight did). My expectations are low, by that I mean I expect to see 3 things:

1)Megan Fox showing off her body as much as possible...maybe even transforming for all I know

2)Lots of freakin' robots beating each other up and crashing into stuff. Most of the time I won't know what is going on.

3)Hopefully just a few good moments for the die hard fans who used to worship Transformers as a kid. I want something cool to happen that makes me feel like a kid again

I watched the whole matrix trilogy on bluray over the weekend on the new plasma and it was a great experience. granted they are nonsense films too, but there is a time and a place for them

True - the desert fight scene in Transformers is my 'demo' whenever I want to show anyone my screen / sound system.

What new plasma have you got Allan?

I picked up a 50" Kuro just over a month ago - couldn't be happier! The black level improvement makes a much bigger difference than I was expecting.

Nice screens those Kuro - good choice. I picked up a Panasonic Viera NeoPDP 600hz plasma. 42inch for the bedroom. great screen - really rate it. Panasonic VIERA NeoPDP

This is the exact scene i play when i'm showing off a tv or sound system.... The sand, smoke, and explosions plus the contrast/lighting is incredible.... the sound.... excellent.

Any tv with motion interpolation REALLY shows it's power in that scene to as there is so much fast motion that on normal tv's.. you simply are missing half of the stuff in it.

I couldn't imagine what it would look like on a 600hz plasma

Transformers 2 was the most racist movie I have ever seen.

There's an unwritten rule in Hollywood that you can get away with stereotyping Mexicans, Asians, Arabs and Hindu's and basically any group of foreigners...but you don't make fun of black people. Revenge of the Fallen goes so far off the charts of racism that it is impossible not to notice. I thought Jazz breakdancing in Transformers was cringe worthy enough but now you've got two gangsta Autobots (one of whom has a gold tooth!) talking trash and doing everything a stereotypical black person does and they look like monkeys. You'd think it would end there but then there's a black character with no teeth who is working to get money for his teeth! Ugh...Michael Bay would do well to stay far away from any black people for a while. Hell, he should just go into hiding because just about everyone wants to kick his ass I'd do it just for ruining Soundwave's voice!

...anyway the movie was basically the same as the first but waaaay too long and even in IMAX I could not tell the difference between the robots during the fights. Was that a head or a gun? Strangely, robot testicals are easy to spot (even if you miss it a character points it out).There's precious few slo mo shots but they come as a godsend since that's the only time you can see what is happening.

There's not too much I could say about this movie except that as bad as it is I still think GI JOE the movie will be 10 times as bad.

5/10

On the plus side, the BluRay will be kick ass. New reference quality sound on this one. Even the opening studio logos have some decent positional sound. As for Megan Fox...I don't think HD will be as kind to her. She doesn't look nearly as good as in other movies despite having at least 5 minutes total runtime devoted simply to her stripping, posing or boobs bouncing in slow mo as she runs towards the camera.

Anyway, I guess I'm just too old for these kind of movies. When I saw Armageddon I thought it was awesome but it's been all downhill since then when I watch Michael Bay movies

I think its a problem as I am exactly the same, i have watched so many movies for 20+ years that I feel a little jaded with action films lately.

As you say, I think this will make a killer home cinema test and i know a lot of people thought the first one sucked too but bought it just to test their new HD plasma/LCD.

In regards to the "racist" stuff - was it not handled in an amusing way? I mean im white and I find it funny when we are made fun off for not being able to dance etc. I think if its handled in a way its laughing more at a specific culture of a race rather than cold hearted attacks it can be funny. I am quite surprised you said it was a racist film as I would never have expected a transformers film would come across like that.

Everything depends on how it is interpreted and in what context it is portrayed/intended, do you honestly believe Michael Bay was making an attack on a certain group of people simply by having a break dancing Jaz? Or by having some gangsta robots in this movie?

The reason these stereotypes exist is because people like that exist... I think it's much more likely he was either exploiting the stereotype or simply attempting to include as much diversity as possible or just an attempt at humour.

As it was stated in the first film, they simply analysed the internet for common speech patterns in order to learn the language / speak normally.

I heard that the movie has a real plot now, and who knows be more entertaining to adults.
As for me....
I will pass.
CGI or no CGI, if it doesnt have any real depth or a plot, its all eye candy.

Personally, I didn't think it was racist but I did find those two little f***ers f***ing iritating on a Jar Jar Binks level. Devastator looked sh*te too, as did Starscream and Megatron. Come to think of it, so did most of the Transformers compared to how they used to look in the comics and animated movies. F**k michael bay up the arse.

I'm not a PC person and I do agree with what you said about context. However, there is no context for robots who are illiterate, talk like gangsta wannabes, look like monkeys and have gold teeth. I understand the motivation to make an "urban" robot because it's the same as making a female robot (to attract that audience) but this is an example of the filmmakers completely disrespecting the audience. Now that I'm reading some reviews this is being said in everyone of them so I don't think I imagined it.

Devastator managed to take 5-6 robots (who we never even saw outside of vehicle form) and then turn into a giant robot who looked no larger than the others. The entire point of Devastator in the toys/cartoon was to make a robot which towered over all the others...he should have been like Godzilla standing beside the Pyramid not crawling up it like a slug. Ugh...this is not a movie for the fans of the original Transformers (which Bay clearly knows nothing about).

A lot of my friends didn't like this. For me, it was awesome. Robot carnage, awesome cgi, Meg's cleavage. Its transformers, not Citizen Cain. It had more depth than an erotic film and it didn't attempt to shove any philosophical or existential motifs where they didn't belong.

This is a movie about robots beating each others asses and as such, I was more than pleased.

Just saw the movie, wasn't too bad, nice to see a few things from the series re-appear in the movie

as for Devastator... imo he actually did look a lot larger than the other transformers, just we weren't really shown him in perspective next to the others
