Re: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Thread [Possible Spoilers]

Probably two of my favorite shots in TF2 involved the Pyramid. The first was the Sector 7 guy at the base of it looking up, showcasing how massive the blocks are (looked fantastic on IMAX) and it was pretty cool when The Fallen picked up the tanks and dropped them on the Pyramid. That was one of the very few shots in the movie which wasn't so close up that it was hard to tell what was going on.

For perspective

via wikipedia: the great pyramids of giza, each base is 756.2 feet long, and the height is 455 feet.

Re: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Thread [Possible Spoilers]

this was definately a kick arse movie!

but, i do have a slight couple complaints about it. stuff like they were a tad too fast to keep up with (for me at least). like, if they would have slowed the action by like 2 or 3 frames i think it would have been much better.

and also, if you haven't seen the first one, i would recommend that you watch it first because there are some references to the first one that you won't get if you haven't seen it.

another complaint about it, is that there are a few things that aren't explained in the movie. like the chick who's a Decepticon. Since when do Transformers, Decpticons and Autobots alike, been able to transform into human flesh?

and what happens to the little toy truck decpeticon dude at the beginning of the desert scene? he just kinda dropped off without any explanation.

Optimus Prime definately did kick lotsa arse compared to the first movie where he was just an oversized wimp, but he was still weak in the sense that he needed additional help from that blackhawk jet. if had trouble with megatron, how the heck was he supposed to defeat that fallen dude?

oh, and on their home planet of cybertron, the decepticons are shown to be "growing" more transformers. if you've seen the movie, you know the purpose of this scene, but wouldn't you think that machines are built, not grown?

anyways, i give this movie 3.5/5 stars because of all the open questions. all the action/fighting scenes are very well worth it which is why it's not anything lower.

The "pod" Transformers thing was so stupid I simply blocked it out, a stork dropping them off on Megatrons doorstep would have made as much sense.

Re: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Thread [Possible Spoilers]

Just got back from seeing it.

What can I say... WOW

I loved it - was quite a bit better than the first one IMO.

The way they mixed the live action with CGI was incredible - I especially noticed that in the forest battle. Haven't seen it implemented quite so well ever before. Much more action.

Didn't really pay much attention to the story line (well... it's not that kind of film). Despite that, I think it's amazing how they can make you feel for these CGI robots.

I had one pet peve with it though... on top of the pyramid, you could see stuff falling, but nothing had actually been removed from the pyramid. Obviously they couldn't actually damage the pyramids, so I guess either replacing the parts with cgi parts would have been too much work / looked too fake - but it wasn't a big problem.

Shia Laboeuf wasn't a whiny little b**** in this one! I really started to become sick of him after his performances in the first film / indiana jones 4 - he was screeming like a girl all the time... this movie, he wasn't (I guess he had more of a say with the writers this time?). They gave the annoying screeming like a girl part to some other random guy & they tasered him - woo!

As for the gangsta robots being racist? No way! They were funny! It was a piss take of a stereo type... nothing more.

Can't wait to get it on my home system... cinema bass systems are so pathetic - time to get the whole apartment building shaking with this one when it's released on blu-ray!

CDs... I know what you mean about the chick decepticon - where the heck did she come from?

There was another part to the film which desperately needed explaining... wracking my brain trying to think what it was now - so blindingly obvious at the time.

As for them growing robots... I think it was an attempt to demonstrate that they were more than just machines... they were living machines. Would also explain why the older / more powerful robots are bigger & also why they get old (like the one who gave optimus the jet pack).

I didn't see what you mean about them needing to slow the action down though - I could see everything, clearly... every now and again they overused the motion blur... but that happens. Just a suggestion... but could it have been the cinema you went to/screen you viewed in? I specfically went to one of the Odeon Digital shows (digital projection instead of film).

Another annoyance... why the b****y hell does Sam never say thanks to Bumblebee and just gives him such a hard time all the time... grrrrrr (haha).

My ratings....

Action = 10/10 (well crafted / structured)
Visuals/Graphics/CGI = 10/10 (a new reference standard imo)
Story line = 5/10 (nothing special, but not annoying... some obvious holes)

Lol... we don't agree on much... I think that was one of the worst shots of the entire movie (with the very fake cgi / falling stuff).

On a side note... I saw the new trailer for 2012... that looks incredible CGI wise.

Re: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Thread [Possible Spoilers]

Anyone like to see Zack Snyder do Transformers 3? I think his use of slow motion would work great in the Transformers series plus he's got a good knack for action scenes with less quick cuts. Best of all, he's not that original and loves to stick to the source material which would mean TF3 would actually resemble the original Transformers cartoon/toys instead of whatever acid trip Bay was on when he approved the designs/script of Transformers.

Yuppers - I liked it

Just remember when going in to the theatre... it's just an action flick - don't expect anything more than that.

I think the majority of people couldn't care less about the 'original' transformers. I don't think I ever watched it (before my time?).

That's because you're a dork.

Once you've witnessed the awesomeness that is Soundwave, Bruticus or Omega Supreme you'd see how a cheap 80's cartoon managed to blow away a summer blockbuster movie 20 years later.

watched it, it was okay nothing brillian. The fight scenes where a fast flurry blur of machines smashing each other to bits.

very different age groups man. Most people who love this film are well under 25 - another 20 years+ of watching action films and you will probably have a very different view on it. I like nonsense myself at times but it was hard for me to stay awake during this film, the whole thing was so predictable, poorly written and a total mess on a script level. To be fair however the cartoons were hardly masterpieces so I doubt anyone goes to the cinema expecting anything more. I mean even the people in here who like it said they didn't pay much attention to the storyline - and there is a reason for that, it could have been scribbled on a matchbox in a pub.

Sure it was entertaining, but it was exactly as I expected it would be. Bigger, brasher, louder and just as skin deep. But no complaints here I went solely for the digital effects.
