Started College Today :]

Absolutely loved it, Was a bit nervous at first on the train but when i met up with everyone in skipton i chilled out a bit because 2 of my mates Jess and Ryan were on the same course as me
We got split up at first into groups of 16s and 17+'s, but because there were 2 spare places me and Ryan got put into the same group as Jess who's 17.

Had a great time, really nice place and awesome people.
I think i'm gonna enjoy it there

Good news, have fun and work hard.

Piece of advise for you: don't hang out with old friends all the time. It's a problem when people go to "community" type colleges in which friends are in class with you. The best, and very useful, part of college is the opportunity to meet new people. This is a great way to change and develope yourself, and in my experience, is very rewarding, even necessary in the long run.

I've met all the new people there and they're all awesome, seen a few old friends about and a few familiar faces but the people in my teaching group are awesome, we've already got a class clown and it isn't me

Haha for once, i hated being at bingley grammar (my secondary/high school) because the atmosphere was so busy and noisy, i was always being jostled and having someone shouting some kind of insult at me.
There's none of that at college, everyone's older and more mature and for once i feel accepted in an education environment It seems we've all just clicked in my group, everyone there is like 17 plus so me and Ryan are the youngest ones but everyone seems cool with it lol. It's also so much calmer and more laid back and i'm really enjoying it there so far

Thanks everyone

that's something i found as well going from secondary to tertiary education - there seems to be a massive jump in the overall maturity level - i guess at school people still act on the same prejudices/immaturities they and their friends had when they started secondary schooling - but the culture shock of changing does seem to help a lot of people "grow up," people start being themselves.

my first year out of secondary school, while the course i chose was not ideal (transferred at the end of the year) it was a massive change in my personal development - i used to be relatively quiet at school, pretty shy, not all that popular - but none of that really mattered to my new coursemates, we were all in the same boat, so it really helped me come out of my shell (though it did take some conscious effort on my part)

i guess waht I'm saying Mousey, is that if you're prepared, you can really accelerate your personal development this year

Believe it or not, Parkour was what helped me come out of my shell so to speak. As i started learning more and getting more confident, i gradually became a more confident person. One of my mates Pete that's 20 something noticed that. We were training together one jam and i was quiet and somewhat withdrawn, he saw me a couple of months later after i'd learned how to Kong (Paritcularly difficult vault) and had a girlfriend.. and been ditched lol . He commented on the fact i'd really "come out of my shell", i was louder and more confident and generally happier.

It truly is a life changing thing, it's not just my daily adrenaline fix y'know

Yeah I know it, Liz and I used to walk up and down the town looking for good pics for the scrapbook, I am rather fond of the place, even though its rather quiet. I am sure you can find lots of Parkour territory at Skipton Castle..LOL

You have to remember that US Colleges and UK Colleges are very very different. Hey Jeff, do you know the bus station? We train there like every saturday, if you're ever gonna be about on a weekend (or indeed at about 4ish on a weekday) go there and you might see us

Judas is in Canada lol, not the US.

Whether the system is different of the USA or not you can still make it into whatever you like.

Congratulations Mousey on making an excellent and potentially life-changing decision. If you knuckle down and remain diligent this could be the thing that defines your future. Don't forget to be a bit wild in the evenings and weekends though. And of course, best of luck.

I never went to college. I was living in a squat at about that age, doing copious amounts of drugs, selling the stuff and robbing various places. Guess I took a slightly different route.

be awhile before I make it up to the Lake District or Blackpool anytime soon, but I might pop in to see what is up. I usually hit Ripton and the antique shops or Harrogate. I work at Menwith Hill occasionally so I will try to swing by.

Cheers.
