Its not 1300 more expensive. the price of the Nvidia system is around 10,966. Although neither are "ultimate" for an ultimate system you need 8 cores anyway (at the minute) - has to be a QX9775x2...

yep....
many of the Dream machine creations in the trades and web sites begin wit those and of course Nvidia GPU power.
but more is not necessarily better is it.

lol, idk man. that part surprised me too. i did my math like 3 times on each rig to verify that i didn't do anything wrong.
the only thing that was cheaper on the NVIDIA rig was the case really.

i can redo both machines....but i take it that the qx9775x2 is a socket 771 CPU?
what components am i missing? will that MoBo support both x-fire and SLI? or does each have its own respective MoBo to support either platform?
i wanted to make it as "ultimate" as possible for both NVIDIA and ATI platforms, so that's why i asked to fill me in on what i'm missing

Well I think you need to be a bit more specific, if you want to make the ultimate gaming rig then yes you are on the right path. If you want to make it the ultimate rig then the systems you are building are already 4 cores down on something like a skulltrail system. Wouldnt be that noticeable for quite a lot of things, but if you wanted to game, and 3d render or even perform complex video editing then you need to start again.
Not that im being pedantic about it all, just thought id mention it...

Can you put together a $20,000 ultimate rig? Could get Intel in the idea and then run a DH competition...

a little more specific...the ultimate gaming rig is what i was looking for .
i know that i'd need quadro for NVIDIA and iforgetwhat for ATI 3D modeling for CAD and stuff like that.
