I might have just saved someone's life
I was on MSN talking to Ellen a mate of mine, and another one of my mates Niki sends me a frantic message saying Jimmi's trying to Overdose again.
I'll admit i started panicking a bit, and i sent him a few messages on MSN. When he didn't reply i downed tools and legged it up to his apartment with sam, i punched in the door code (took me 3 tries) and got in the lift (i was absolutely dying, couldn't take stairs for fear of collapsing), when it finally arrived on the third floor i legged it out of the lift and started hammering on Jimmi's door.
All sorts of nasty thoughts were running through my head, i was ready to boot the door down if i had to, i even had my hand on my mobile in case my fear of finding him lying in the hall was to be realised.
Eventually he opened the door just a crack and said "what".
I said "It's tom with sam, are you alright jimmi?"
He opened the door and i saw he was holding a knife I had a real start and i backed up, asking him to put it down, at which point he backed up and put it down.
We went in to his room and i messaged niki saying he was ok and he'd only taken a paracetemol for his head.
We were chatting for a bit when he calmed down and he told me his girlfriend/fiancé who broke up with him a few months ago had been cheating, even when she was with him. He was understandably upset so we stayed with him for a bit.
When i was safe in the knowledge he didn't have anything else to take and he'd put any stray knives away we told him not to do anything stupid and left the apartment.
I'm just glad i got there when i did

Wow, that's a sad story with a better ending. Good for you, Mr. Mouse. Keep and eye out though, depression has a habit of spouting off again.

Yeah i'm keeping a close eye on Jimmi, i've told him that if he feels even remotely depressed i'm available practically all the time and i'll listen to anything he has to say.
Thank god i got there when i did, he could've taken like 8 more paracetemols by the time i found out he was thinking about OD'ing, must be his common sense that stopped him.
I'm going to have a word with his ex and tell her what's happened, and at the very least just help him out of his depression, it's hard for us, because even though me and niki are his closest friends, there's not much we can do.

Best to leave the Ex out of it. It'll only make her feel terrible, and create hope in your buddy. Odds are it'll just upset the situation worse. Your buddy should really just learn to deal with the situation.

Sounds like the best option, almost never good to get the ex involved he'd only end up getting hurt again...

friendship has many aspects that require honesty, can you tell this chap what he needs to hear rather than what he wants to hear?

i had a lady friend who tried to do something like this. she was out of the state at the time too so i had to call to all of the hotels in her area until i found which one she was at, then tell the hotel workers. then tell the police. they actually destroyed the door trying to get in and get her from what I hear. technically I was too late. She had already downed all the pills. but she was kinda stupid (in more ways than one) and took vitamin pills thinking she could OD on them. the paramedics i guess got a decent chuckle over that.
That was a long time ago in middleschool. crazy times.
Mousey you did a good thing. this guy Jimmi will always remember this man.

What do you mean? He only just found that his fiancé (They were actually engaged) was cheating, to be honest i dont' blame him for what he did.
I'm always honest with jimmi, i was honest to him about april as well as lisa.
We both know if we have a problem we'll each listen
