I've been talking to a mate of mine from school and he tells me that he's planning to go to college when he leaves school, Now college has always been an interest for me because i don't think i could stand another 2/3 years at my school even if it in a more relaxed environment.
Now here's the thing, my mum keeps saying that college is for lazy people that want time off, i've been looking at the site for craven college which is in skipton (the one my mate wants to go to) and they've got a course that interests me for further education,
HNC/HND COMPUTING (ICT SYSTEMS SUPPORT). Link
This sounds like a really interesting course because i already know all about computer hardware (i drool over the communities' enough
), building/upgrading/repairing computers is all firmly within my ability range. It's eitheir fixable or it needs something new is the underlying principle but networks have always been something of a mystery to me.
Right, it's this bit that interests me;
Entry Requirements:
Interview and reference plus one of the following:
- Relevant qualification equivalent to an A Level pass with supporting competence in English and maths
- Computing experience
- Relevant qualifications and/or sufficient work experience
Let's go from the top, it says plus one of the following after the interview so i might have 2 of those,
Relevant qualifications; I do a course called CiDA at school which is Certificate in Digital Applications. In other words it's an advanced ICT course. If i have to bump up my grades and do a sh*t load more work in it to get into this college course, so be it, and i'll do it. I think that if i get some good grades for this project and school can go 1 week without deleting my files i might stand a chance.
Computing Experience; Both hardware and software are my passions when it comes to computing. I do lots of work in Photoshop and Cinema4D, I'm constantly tinkering with files to see if i can make this faster, stop it doing this ect ect..
I've also formatted and reinstalled windows more times than i care to remember, a fair few of these times my fault when i've tinkered with a file i shouldn't be tinkering with or messing around in the registry and forgetting to reset key values IE. startup... Yeah , i know

I upgraded this rig from a retail one, removing and replacing all the parts, and i'm doing this pretty much all the time. I've also repaired and upgraded other people's computers for a bit of small time work when i'm strapped for cash.
Also, i run Techouse-online.com with a friend of mine, we've done loads of work on it like making custom skins, a download system, file hosting. ect. ect. We made Techouse after our previous site, mdesigns flopped really badly and had to be shutdown.
But again, networking is something i really want to understand but school could never really teach me anything about it
Work Experience : Work, what work?
Do you think i have a chance?
I'm going to speak to my mum and my dad about it, if my mum says anything about it being lazy i'm just going to ignore her. Dad might support me on it a bit more though, whaddyou think?
