have we any heroes on DH?
No, I dont mean has anyone got superpowers like the tv show !
I was reading a story today and a very ordinary guy saved a young child from a fire, risking his own life in the process.
Have we any silent heroes on DH?

Stopped a couple of 1on1 fights but the last time was a long time ago. Haven taken short CPR courses a number of times I hope to be ready when that may be needed, but to be honest I guess one doesn't know until it happens.

Can we count all the lives we've saved by not unleashing our inner homicidal rage?

4 weeks ago i saved a friend of mine from doing suicide.
broken english version:
he acted very strange on a phone call, and he ended with 'good bye, i'm sorry'.
boing, all alarm bells ringing.
with help of the local police we broke into his apartement.
a empty bottle of vodka, a goodbye-letter, a bathup and hairdryer.
thank god he had first listening to his favourit records first, before climbing in that deadly bath.
and i have done dozens of CPR, but thats my profession. to be a real hereo is a non-profit job.

Not sure what you do specifically as a job, but I've got a couple friends who are paramedics with the same attitude. Regardless, they're still heroes in the eyes of the people they help.

Here's a story about how I saved a baby. I wrote it this past summer.
It was a beautiful day in Tennessee. It was hot, but not too hot, about 88 f. I had to go to the Wal-Mart to get a few things. I am driving my 2000 Pathfinder SE, I get to the Wal-Mart and it's packed. I guess alot of people are on vacation this week.
I finally find a parking spot way in the back row. I park next to this shiatty 88 Mustang LX. Rusty, bondo, primmer and dented. I had an 1989 LX 5.0 for years so the car reminded me of that. So I park this Mustang is on the left side of me.I don't usually park next to junk cars, I don't want them denting me.
So I go shopping, pay and come back to load my groceries about 40 minutes later.
As I am loading the SUV I hear a baby crying. Not crying as much as whimpering.
I look around and notice that Mustang is still there. With a baby in it. With the windows rolled up! It's got to be about 92 f in that parking lot. I start yelling out, "who owns this car!" Nobody is around.
I start to see the baby going into convulsions. I forgot my cell phone at home.
I pop the truck and grab a towel. I wrap it around my hand to break the window when I notice that the drivers side is unlocked. I start my SUV and crank the AC to max. I went into the
Mustang and took the baby out. It was in a car seat but not strapped in. The baby was soaking wet with sweat. No shirt or shoes just a diaper and red shorts. Having a heatstroke.
I didn't even know if it was a boy or girl baby. I put the baby in my front seat. On the towel.
I see an old Wal-Mart shopping cart wrangler and told him to call 911. He got on his walkie talkie and did. I stayed in the car with the baby. I gave it some cold bottled water. This kid had to be either 9-11 months old.
I lock my doors and wait about 5 minutes for the cops. No cops yet. All of a sudden two scumbag punk rednecks walk over to their Mustang. I turn off my car, get out (it was still very cool in there.) I lock my truck.
I told one of them "I got your kid in my truck asshole. What the fark is wrong with you leaving a baby in a car in this weather. I wouldn't do that to a dog." (I'm from NY btw)
He came back with a "Mind yer own business muther farker. We keeps it real biatch, you don't know who your talking too."
I was like "Oh yeah tough guy, the cops are on their way. Let's see what they think."
That's when the shiat went down. The guy starts punching my window on the passenger side of my Pathfinder. With a baby right there!
A punched him in the throat, he dropped instantly and couldn't breath. His boy then punched me in the back of my head. Didn't even hurt. I beat the shiat out of him. I hit him in the face at least 20 times. Then I got choke slammed by a cop.
So now I am in cuffs, there's a strange dying baby in my truck, and I just about killed 2 men. Then I looked around and there are a ton of witnesses that saw the whole thing.
One guy claimed the baby wasn't theirs. It was mine. And I was stealing their Mustang.
The cops take us down to the station. I don't know what to do. The cops let me out of holding and everyone starts clapping and patting me on the back. Turned out they this all on video! That Mustang was in the parking lot for over 2 hours while the guys that owned it were selling meth, oxycontins, and weed in the lot.
They only went back to the car 3 times in 2 hours with that baby in there the whole time.
They got bused with 40 grams of meth, 20 viles of crack, about 100 oxycontins, and moonshine. The baby is in the hospital now.
Plus they got all the cars these jokers were selling to onWal-Mart video too! License plates from their high res cameras at each of the 3 exits.
The news was there and wanted to interview me at the police station but I slipped out the back. I don't know how many peeps are getting arrested and I don't want any of them knowing it's my fault. The cops are trying to keep this low key because 1.) They don't want people to be afraid of Wal-Mart and 2.) They don't want anyone to know they got alot of users license plates. They they will issue a press release or something.
I am not scared, but I got a fracture in my hand, some heavy knuckle damage. The Detectives need me to come by tomorrow and go over the police report. I don't know about being a hero. If I saw a baby in a burning building I would go get it. To me this seamed just as desperate a situation.
Sorry if their are alot of spelling error cause have a splint on my hand.
Just got out of the hospital.

Nice one. Hopefully the baby ended up with people that'll actually look after it & give it a better life.
I tried to help an old lady that was getting beaten up in a burger shop, smacked one of em got jumped by another 2 lads & cops arrested me too & took me to court. Thats what happens if you try & be a hero in the UK. The funniest thing is after the charges were dropped against me & the other lad, the cops came grovelling back to me to give evidence against the other guy as he was a habitual offender & even made it into the national papers for other crimes he commited. I told the copper to use the statement I originally gave & that I wasn't going to court to give evidence against no one. Serves the cunts right! coppers tried to sticth me up too after I gave em an honest statement so I shafted them cos I was a freind of the other lads mum & we both decided to get our solicitors to drop the charges against each other so the pigs came out of it with nothing. Bastards
I think what you done was fooking brilliant mate but in the UK those scum bags would have sued you for compensation & the cops would have charged you for assault & attempted theft of a motor vehicle. Thats how things work over here in the UK.
At least in the US the cops have some common sense & can tell the difference between a hero & a criminal. The amount of stories you read about in the papers in the UK where the criminal sues for human rights violations & the innocent person, the easy target, gets shafted just p*sses me right off.

I've watched that show myself a few times. Can't think of anything I've done
that would be considerd heroic, lest in that way.
But then again I'd have to think.... As for stopping a suicide? I've done that...A G/F
who was going to kill herself and tried to took the phones of the hook after calling me
so that i couldnt call and tell her grandparents wich she lived with. I drove over and
they called 911 and got her to the hospital. She was takeing all kinds of pills. Had a
pop can partually full of pop, partally full of pills to try to conseal what she was doing.
She go the joy or haveing her stomac pumped and eating that black charcoal crap.
