My son graduated today from Basic Training
I just got to see some photos my first wife took of our son graduating from basic military training in the United States Navy, and I wish I could tell you how very proud I am of him. He is going into the nuclear power community as a sonar tech for his first school and submarine school after that. He tested off the scale in some areas, did poorly in discipline LOL.
He will now continue the legacy his great grandfather, his grandfather and our family and myself in the rich tradition, the honor of service to our country. I cannot express my own pride as my son steps into a career and that will reward him with so many things that will allow to see that their are so many oppurtunties to realize. From a varsity football player with no ambition and no interest in the future he took a chance and decided to do a 180 turn in his life from loose women and drugs to making changes for himself, his family and his future. I wish I was there when he marched on the field under his units colors like I did in 1977. Maybe I am a romantic idiot with dilusions of fatherhood, because I spent 7 years at sea while he turned into a young man. Maybe I just wish for one minute I could shake his hand and tell him again how proud we all are, but that is life I guess. No matter how hard his mother and I messed things up a bit, he turned out alright, so I march with him to his next duty station, and in my heart serve with him as every new challenge is met and overcome. My heart is still at sea, from the fantail of a warship, underway to some point on a chart.

Congratulations Jeff. I have some personal experience about sonars and stuff I can say that he has a lot to learn it takes some time to know how to track contacts on passive sonar. Great example is Swedish Navy that were chasing some poor seal in the northern Baltic sea as they thought it was Russian KILO I class sub.

A hearty "WELL DONE" to your son Jeff.
Ya know, the apple usually doesn't fall all that far from the tree. It might have taken awhile, but it appears that he is now showing that he really did learn something from you as he was growing up.
I think we all have a certain streak of rebellion in us, but in the end most of us usually come back to reality and wonder just what the hell we were doing wasting our time like that

Know how you feel, I just bought Springsteens new album, and its good, but I spent two hours just toiling up and down country roads on the Fens and taking pictures.

Congratulations, I have a few friends from HS that are now military; its kinda funny how all of that really makes them grow up, and how they have changed since you last saw someone just before they went to boot camp.
