Double bit axe handle repair

Okay... So I can build my own computer from scratch, but I can't fix an axe handle.....

I have an old double bit axe head for which I am trying to put on a fiberglass handle.

I am not getting any where.

The handle has a ridge on the top for which the head won't go past. I am thinking you need to file down that ridge just enough so that the head will move farther down the top of the handle so it will meet the seal to prevent the epoxy from going past.

here is pic The area circled in red is the ridge I am refering to.

thanks for your help
