Sad So i need knee surgery

supppp all my fellow DH members.. its been a while...

anyways 3 days before school got out (may 28th) i fell off my longboard going down a hill and i tore my ACL and some kind of ligament...

today 2 months later i finally got to see a orthopedic (gosh the system here in the u.s sucks ass)

anyways i need knee surgery and he said there are 3 options..
cant remember the first, but the second one is the standard "GOLD" method which is to take out a part of another ligament from my knee and to reconstruct it,

and the other method was to take a ligament from someone thats already dead, and just put it in my knee and stuff without taking out of another place in my body...

anyways as some of you might know im going to be a senior in highschool this year (school starts in 2 weeks)... so im kind of really bummed (cant find a word for my current feelings at the moment )

the earliest i can get surgery is at the end of august, 3 weeks after school has already begun, and after that it will be atleast 6-8 weeks of recovery, and for the rest of the year i still wont be able to do any major activities until it is fully healed...

just wanted to update you guys with whats going on right now...

any one ever experience anything similar?? any suggestions for the surgery or anything??
some prayers would help... i never really had any type of surgery before so im kind of distressed about it...

I turned down a knee and a hand surgery just because I didnt believe that there was any benefit for me in light of the pain and therapy I would need to get it done. I was soooo wrong.
I spent a few years as a Ortho Tech and learned that with reconstruction comes a great deal of work to re-strengthen your leg and knee and courage to try harder. Its all about choices and personal courage and some faith too. I wish you well.

that sucks for you man. 2 months is a joke as well. I fucked my knee a few years back and before the end of that week I'd seen two different doctors and started physio.
no real experience of major surgery myself, but if I were in your situation I'd do whatever it took to get it completely fixed up while you're still young and fit and all
good luck

Man, I know you must be really distressed. BUT, as was mentioned already, you need to go ahead and get this done ASAP while you're still young.

My mom had knee replacement surgery just a couple of years ago (after she's in her 70's) and she's doing very, very well now. If she can do it at her age, it should be a breeze for you.

Jesus the system really does sound fucked where you live...
my knees are pretty bad at the mo, i over compensated doing a precision jump (i do parkour, google it) and my right knee made a huge pop and it's been painful to straighten and bend (with weight on it) for a while now.
The surgery sounds like a lose-lose situation, i can't recommend anything since i don't know what you feel comfortable with, i'd probably have the reconstruction myself since it's probably not as likely to snap again

good luck dude

God damn, senior year!!!

No beer parties for you, mate You can't drink any beer at all, since it hinders your healing. But you're going to need that surgery. Being cripple few years later, sucks much more. I wish you best, cheer up. And drink as much beer as you can at the moment
