The Smashing Pumpkins announce first show since 2000, Grand Rex in Paris
Many of you know how big of a Pumpkins fan I am, so i got this in email and posted it for the rest of the Pumpkinheads around the forums. I just might be paying a visit to Toronto in September.
Quote:
THE SMASHING PUMPKINS are excited to announce their first live performance since December 2, 2000 - a very special and intimate theatre show to take place May 22 in Paris, France at the historic and elegantly appointed Grand Rex. Tickets will go on sale April 11.
This marks the first time The Smashing Pumpkins will unveil songs from the upcoming ZEITGEIST (Martha's Music/Reprise), their sixth album and first of new material since 2000's Machina/The Machines of God and the free, digital-only release Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music. ZEITGEIST was produced by Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin, with Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date working separately on various tracks, and represents the culmination of two years of work.
After the Paris show, The Smashing Pumpkins will headline major European festivals from May 28 at Holland’s Pinkpop festival through June 17 at Switzerland’s Greenfield Festival, returning to England August 24 (Leeds Festival) and August 26 (Reading Festival). Stay tuned for more information about North American tour dates beyond the V Festivals confirmed in Washington, DC (August 5) and Toronto, ONT (September 8).
Here are the initial tour dates:

I had no idea you were a pumpkins fan.
one of my favourite all time bands, mellon collie is sheer genius
the huuuge increase in the sound level on the last track on the Zero EP resulted in a rather embaressing incident (don't ever put that on the stereo if you're sleeping with someone else's lady..)
but Billy is a fucking god for sure
(that Zwan album is actually really quite good)

Are they even relevant anymore? I saw them live in Ottawa and used to be a big fan but that was years ago and I haven't heard any new music from them since.

@ Omega
Well, they broke up in 2001, so thats probably why you havent heard anything new. As far as relevence goes, its in the ear of the beholder. Speaking more on terms of Rock as a whole, there probably hasn't been a real relevent album since Mellen Collie, before that maybe Nevermind.
@ Richy
I'm probably the biggest fan you can find. I've got something like 600 tracks of bootlegs and rare stuff, as well as all their albums and lots merch as well. Just love them more than any other. I loved Zwan too, saw them live at Cleveland (screamed like a 12 year old girl at an n'sinc show). Billy's solo effort was OK, not his best work though.
I checked the prices for the toronto festival, it won't work for me. I guess I'll have to wait for the official tour. It's really been a life's pursuit to see them. One of those top five must-do things before I die.

we're looking into going to Paris to see them, depends on timing (and finance).
you're on the money with Mellon Collie (not Nevermind, In Utero is better in every way), hasn't been a double album that awesome since Led Zep

For the record, i'm not a Nirvana fan, never really was. Nevermind was pretty earth shaking though. It changed music forever on a popular level.
That would be excellent if you made it to paris for the show. I imagine tickets are going to be rediculous though. I guess the theatre is very small.

A forum.

I post in the Elliott Smith section but there's some parts that may interest you. The Smashing Pumpkins' section's not so active these days though. Thankfully the same cannot be said for the Elliott Smith section.
Nevermind, was just wondering.

yeah, I'm trying. money's gonna be a problem, but I got stuff I can sell (2 bloody cars for starters..). Paris for the first time though, with the pumpkins thrown in hope to hell I can make it happen
(and just btw, I'm not sure nevermind changed things for the better . always seemed like a backward step for me)
