Wouldn't you just love to test new parts?
I really really really wanna test new parts from companies like Intel, ATI even AMD or Nvidia.
Haven't you ever wondered where these groups on youtube or these sites that run benchmarks get their components from? surely they can't spend like £799 on a Core 2 Duo Extreme to risk burning it up by overclocking it? Sheeeesh, Come on Intel, ATI ect... open up, let OTHER people trash your products instead of you

I don't really see the point of this thread, but...
a) Yes, most people actually buy the hardware. Most companies won't even give you a poster for free, let alone a 1000$+ CPU
b) Overclocking processors hardly can damage them. The risk mostly involves the motherboard, which risk is still low but many times higher.
c) If you get Intel to give you a C2D EE, I want one too!

although it would be pretty slick to get my hands on some prelease products to trial out before anyone gets a chance to.....
i doubt i'd want to trash the sucker...

Apparently ATI have begun to make more products for the AGP market for now before everyone switches over to PCI-E, i'm dreading the day i have to switch over, it's gonna be so expensive

I Suppose but groups like Tom's Hardware and other people that benchmark/overclock/destroy new products must get all their money from somewhere? ( maybe besides work, because these guys must earn a fair bit if they spend all this money on new mainboards and bloody expensive CPUs)
If your'e like me and you've got the one system and don't have enough money to get a new one if it goes wrong overclocking is sorta outta the question if you know what i mean, i'm 14 and running this thing on a paper round, and i aint done too badly, new gfx card, new sound card, new ram, new mainboard.
But where am i gonna get £332 for a new system? xD
*woooo off topic *

Well, we reviewers do sell drugs and women but that's not our only source of income.
All websites have an income from somewhere, so they can afford a certain amount of expenses. And yes, reviewers usually buy most of the hardware they need. That's what makes us volunteers, not mercenaries.
And we DON'T destroy new products, geez, I never broke anything I received for review...intentionally!

intel and AMD and quite a few companies supply us hardware but we dont often get enough to give to every reviewer. Im not sure why grace is saying she pays for all her hardware, she gets quite a bit of free stuff.

Well the thing is @ thread starter. Intel and AMD supply samples normally in relation to the size/influence of the particular websites in question. We currently have many samples from them, most of which are with stuart as he tends to test the high end graphics cards. I think he has a Quad core intel processor and a X6800 processor as well, so for Grace to say they wont even supply high end CPU samples to websites, is wrong, they even let reviewers hold onto them for future testing with other hardware. Also companies like OCZ, Corsair, Ultra and a ton of others are always very helpful if you are building a test rig for the site, so I can't really say we run into issues with this. Of course if you ask Intel for ten Quad core processors, or ATI for 15 X1950's for every reviewer you obviously wouldn't get it !
As mainman says if you are capable of writing and reviewing a product then find a site that needs reviewers and supply a sample review, and you might get into the team, however I think your attitude wouldn't really wash with many of them, every forum user wants "free" hardware, but it doesnt operate like that. you need to work (and sometimes very hard), for it. You also need the ability to review it.... which believe it or not is not quite as easy as it may sound.

Mousey, you should really read what Zardon wrote, it's not an easy job beeing a reviewer, there's alot of work involved and getting samples can be a bit difficult at times, depending on the size and influence of the site. If you do get in the business of reviewing hardware just for the free stuff you get you better think twice. In my case i have the worst job, i have all the work of trying to arrange hardware so others can have fun reviewing them. Not a fun job, but someones gotta do it. But it's all worth it at the end. Some people people get in this for the money and free stuff, but the only thing i get is the satisfaction of helping out and a freakin headache from time to time.

I'm still curious why sexy avatar girl was being so circuitous regarding the buying or giving of testware to reviewers.
Mind you I don't really care. I don't want to be a reviewer - too much trouble for what ya get goodiewise (btw, that's a backhanded thank you to all the DH reviewers out there ). Unless you are set up to do that all the time & you have lots of free time doing reviews & tests or new product is just a lovely way to hose your whole system and burn lots & lots of time. Sorry I got enough frustrrations working with my PC without trying to test new product.
