To Absent friends
I was just looking through our moderator list today updating staff etc, and I noticed the name "Roadee" on it.
For those of you who don't know this guy, Roadee was a great friend to me, and worked on this site in 2003-2004. Unfortunately the guy was badly injured by a war he fought for the states and died in 2004.
I have left his name on the moderator list since then and I have spoken to his wife a few times in email since. His name will be on staff until the day the site closes in memory of the guy.
It is funny how people come and go, yet some leave a mark on you that you don't forget. I remember my chats with him on MSN and his love for hardware and i also remember the horrible stories he told me about the war and how much pain he was in.
He will be missed but never forgotten. Cheers Mr Dawson.

Allan, I actually stopped and paused for a few moments when I saw his name in that list. Just going through it brought back a lot of memories as I've been here just about since Day One.
Others have come and gone as well, but, when I got to Roadee's name, I just had to stop for a moment.....
He's definitely missed and will continue to be by any and all who knew him.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

I also talked to him occassionaly on MSN, Joe was a good man with a great sense of humour despite his constant pains. He will not be forgotten.

Indeed......
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!
And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine,
And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!
We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowans fine,
But we've wander'd monie a weary fit,
Sin auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidl'd in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin auld lang syne.
And there's a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o thine,
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne

He "is" great, reguardless of what he had gone through, always in good spirit and willing to push through for anything.
I consistantly am aware of his placement in the mod list under various forums. But with a few of the changes and additions, i've seen his name somewhat disappear from a few and non excistant on the new ones, while remaining to the forums that haven't been modified. Would be fitting for him to be places under every forum mod list though (imo).

Sorry, did I ask you what you thought? Roadee never moderated all the forums so it is a pretentious gesture and if you knew the guy well you would know that would be the last thing he would want. He is on the main staff list and will always remain there. This thread is about Roadee, so for once just keep your hands from typing crap

Yeah come to think of it, he did have an avatar before that one, i cant remember it. I remember his signature that was like a ghetto blaster with leds that flashed up and down.
I know you talked to him a lot as well Jeff, you didn't serve together in the same wars did you ?

I like random never met roadee but have known of his presents on the site and the impressions he left on friends here by all the kind words left buy those who knew him, both by this thread and various other posts. I know he is greatly missed by all his friends, and is held in the highest honor by my part as Veteran. Jeff i think i know exactly what you are talking about, its wat really turned me on to Roadee, the "Everything is Best with Moderation" sig that flashed images of all kinds of events, people, and things really really fast, then slowly faded in the words "Everything is Best with Moderation". The sig was exceptional and after i noticed it , it was to late and he was gone.

Yeah, there was another side to him I saw on MSN, he would talk about assignments and patrols. He certainly had quite a few mental scars.
War isn't fun - even if it looks like it in movies and games.

I barely knew him at all...but I knew he loved this site, he loved hardware...he was also a pretty funny guy. It was a shock to me when he passed away. I kept thinking it was a joke or some sick prank...I was just getting to know the guy ya know?

Roadee, a name I knew well. I too have served queen and country and have seen first-hand the effects war and it's consequences can have on people, I have lost friends too sometimes physically and sometimes mentally. Anyone touched by war will never be the same person again.
It's good that we can take a moment to remember the ultimate sacrifice, people who have laid it all on the line to protect the lifestyles and cultures so many of us waste.
I thought and it's only a suggestion but with more and more of us overclocking we could have a mainstream revival of the Roadee's Rig contest that doesnt really get the coverage it used too. Even if only one new user asks about Roadee's rig then I think it would be a fitting tribute.

Ahh Joe...you are surely missed my friend...used to talk with him all the time in msn and i always knew when things were bad..but he would only say, "having a hard day today"...one thing i loved about him was his sense of humor, always in a good mood despite his injuries..fuck i miss that guy alot. i was truly shocked the day i heard the news, that week he hadnt been online much and i knew something was up..one thing i regret deeply is that i never showed him the pictures of my island i promissed, that bugs the fuck out of me even till this day...i'm sorry old friend, truly am...

i barely knew the guy, but I do know several folks here quite well, and if he's half the man they talk him up to be, I regret not knowing him better.
