Chronicles of Riddick HD DVD
If any of you lucky guys have the xbox HD DVD Player (or any other HD DVD player), make sure you get a hold of the HD DVD version of Chronicles of Riddick - the mastering is out of this world. I have seen this film twice already and im amazed by the extra detail and the subtle nuances the HD version highlights. Especially the escape across the barren island while the sun follows them. you can make out the subtle little details on the rock formations..... Incredible!
Im building up a nice little collection of classics on HD DVD right now, and it REALLY is hard to go back to standard DVD.

I love the series. Most people don't agree with me but I find this a highly enjoyable sci fi movie. Space opera at its best IMO.
I wish I had the hd dvd player and this disc.

I think it was one of the most enjoyable sci fi films ever. I loved Pitch Black too.
The HD DVD has nice extras on it as well, I dont normally watch all the extras, but there are some nice sections on the DVD.
Constantine is another HD DVD with amazing special features/extras on it.

I'm really looking forward to that movie as well, riddick/pitch black... and the potential sequels to the chronicles of riddick ( dubbed "Into Underverse" and "Return to Furia" )
But i'm currently having a complete bitch of a time getting PowerDVD 7 Ultra to playback 6 Channel Surround sound, the voices (Center Audio) simply don't excist, this is playing a normal or HD dvd. Friggen driving me nutz. PowerDVD 6 Deluxe worked perfectly fine. And it appears to effect the creative X-Fi i installed just to see if it would resolve the issue. No friggen dice, setting everything to 4channel resolves the voice issues, but it loses that positioning of sound a fair bit with the 3 front speakers mostly spitting out the same thing.
anyone else run into PowerDVD 7 or Ultra problems?

scratch that,
apparently it's effecting all 5.1 audio formats and playback..
I'm doing a clean install of all audio devices, something isn't playing nice with my audio settings because, my rear speakers are exceptionally quiet as well as the center, and the audio isn't being seperated at all correctly.... first time i've ever had this issue, something i've installed perhaps... we'll see if i can fix this....

They are bringing them out at quite a rate however. between several great powersellers on ebay, there are well over 150 HD DVDS now. I also love the fact you are no longer worrying about regions and modding the players.

that's what i was thinking..
so i went ahead and completely uninstalled the realtek drivers, and anything related to it, and uninstalled the HD audio package driver for windows (hotfix)..
then i proceeded to continue the cleanup.
download the latest set and installed, no change.
i'm going to put this down as a frigen codec conflict corruption of some sort. Really drives me nutz.
I was thinking something was wrong a few days ago because for no apparent reason, my mp3s and winamp audio streams would begin to sound gritty and not right, off and on..
Only now i'm looking into it more and finding something is totally not right.
Reguardless, the more i'm away from windows x64, the more i miss it. I never had issues with it.

maybe you just arent used to configuring the 32 bit version. I used to dual boot both, and I found 64bit was a waste of time and was generally slower with most native 32bit apps as well as having poorer driver support. A failing I see is transfering perfectly over to Vista. the 64bit version currently sucks.
Anyway, lets get this back on the subject of HD DVDs. I know this will soon get hijacked into you telling me how 64 bit XP rocks and ill tell you it sucks, so lets concise it and pretend we had the 5 page debate in this paragraph

not easily. i think I could grab an image via the PC if I connected the 360 HD DVD drive to it.
You interested in a HD player?

In answer to that question, very much so. I'm waiting on an lcd hdtv for this exact reason. Are you running it at 1080p Z?

1920 res? no, just 1368x768 via the dell 37 inch HDTV. Im not really sure the higher standard is going to be worth it for a 37 inch screen. hopefully ill get the chance to try the higher res soon though.
This is the HDTV that probably is the best right now in the Uk anyway http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/television...9285565,00.htm - maybe not big enough for some people though.

I don't own a TV, I just watch movies on my computer. No HDDVD drives available, and a blu-ray drive is over $600. I guess I won't have any legal way of getting high quality HD content for a while still.
Even worse considering I could shell out hundreds for a drive, and have the format disappear in a few years.

High Def is good stuff, yes
It will onyl get better, too...movies now are being doen completely digital from filiming, to projection, to dubbing to discs...thus, no analogue transfer loss [Star Wars Episode 1 was the first movie to never touch an analogue medium, I think]
Also, Z...you have an eye for quality, I see...as much as they're failing everywhere else..sony pulled their act togetyher on the TV front...those new 1080p Bravia's are the sexiest things available [gve it 6 monthes and hitachi, sharp, and samsung will be in the lead again....but sony got a HUGE jump on them all this time]
As for riddick..yes..hands down the best sci fi flick in quite some time [pitch black wa good too, but was clearly a much smaller budgetted film]. I look forward to the "epics" going to High Def: Star Wars, The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean & Harry Potter....any movie that is "better bigger" like those, will do wonders in high def on a good system

I'm waiting for 1440p to come put and then I'm going to buy a 1080p LCD HDTV when the prices on those come down.. It will have to be 42" or bigger for my living room.
Until then, my PC plays DH content quite nicely- it is pretty cool for sure. There is some free content on the net to experiment with..

Oh yeah, usually it's 780p or 1080i, -sometimes there is some 1080p stuff, but you can still get a really nice viewing experience on a small screen. My monitor does 1920 x 1080 (progressive obviously).. but it's amazing the detail that is on the screen at any given time in any HD content.
I'm really itching for an HDTV in my living room now for the first time... HD content is really cheap through my cable company, almost free, so it is getting to be time to upgrade, especially since prices are coming down so fast on HDTV's.

yeah Ive watched some HDTV content on the 24inch dell via component, looks good too. You really do need a larger screen to make the most of it. 37 inch would be really my minimum for viewing these things. not sure about anything over 42 inch however, it tends to start to dominate my room, i used to have a 60 inch screen and it was just too much.

Never saw the whole Riddick. Pitch Black was good. But the weird part is, Chronicles of Riddick: Ecape from Butcher Bay was good too.
