Yes, of course. The official representative of the UK national lottery has a yahoo email address. Are these guys even trying?

Also, "One Million Six Hundred And Twenty Eight Thousand Three Hundred And Sixty Million Unites State Dollars" should be $1,628,360,000,000.00 or a little over 1.6 trillion dollars (or it could be $61,628,360.00, depending on how you read that sort of nonsensical number). And why would a UK lottery be in US dollars, anyway?

"all Winning funds should be Claimed no time" is unintentionally good advice

It is obvious they want your bank account number, to facilitate "transfer Of your winning prize to your Bank Account".

And seriously they need to get someone who can learn to capitalize properly.

The basic fact is this: you can't win if you don't play. Anyone sending you an email or calling you saying that you have won even though you didn't play is trying to scam you. You basically can't win even if you do play, but that is another topic entirely. Lotteries are not in the business of sending out millions of dollars for nothing. Lotteries are in the business to make money.

I got this off the official UK National Lottery Comission Website, which the email conveniently did not link to:

Quote:
Have you received an email telling you that you have won the UK National Lottery?

If so, it is likely that this email is a scam. Sadly these scams are on the increase. We can give you some advice about how to tell whether you have received a scam email.

Have you bought a ticket?
In order to win the UK National Lottery, you have to buy a ticket, either Interactively, via the National Lottery website, mobile phone, or interactive television, for which you need a UK address, or at a National Lottery retailer. If you have not bought a ticket then you have not won.

Does the email/letter ask you to pay money to receive your prize, or to disclose personal information such as bank details or passport information?
If yes, then you have not received a genuine email/letter from the National Lottery. The UK National Lottery would NEVER ask you to pay a handling fee to collect your prize, or to disclose any personal information.

Does the email/letter you have been sent tell you how much you have won?
If the answer is yes, then it is NOT from the National Lottery. The National Lottery does NOT state the amount of a prize in an email.

Does the email come from a yahoo or hotmail (or similar)account?
If so, then it is NOT from the UK National Lottery.

Remember!

* Do not respond to unsolicited emails.
* Never give money to claim a prize.
* Do not reveal personal identity details.
* Do not reveal bank account or credit card details.
* If you have given money or personal details to someone who has sent you an unsolicited email or letter then contact the Police immediately.
* If something sound too good to be true, it usually is!
"If something sound too good to be true, it usually is!"
That is the single best piece of advice for avoiding scams like this.

Perhaps they should put all that effort into learning basic grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and arithmetic.

And DO report spam, Spamcop it, or report directly to the traced source ISP... spam trojanned PCs need to have their service suspended until rectified.

The spammer will be long gone by the time they are reported, but the abused PC will still be there for the next scumbag.

Also, ISP's really ought to consider rejecting incomoing mail that does not have a valid MX path, or which is injected from dynamic user pool space without a recognized outgoing server.
