Help me choose speakers
After my very successful (and for me very helpful) thread about what TV to buy, I am now thinking of getting some kickass speakers to go along with it...
Now these speakers have gotta be workable with everything in the room... That mostly means my DVD Player which will be an Xbox360 (so in otherwords the speakers have got to be able to hook up to the console) and my PC that will be a media center sorta thing... I guess TV speakers will be fine for just watching TV shows ![]() And they have got to be at LEAST 2.1 but of course, 5.1 or more would be da bomb! Price range is about 400$ or something I guess... This whole thing is looking more and more expensive

yeah, H/K are top notch though.
and yeah, you need something to decode the audio signal to 2.1 / 5.1 etc , so you will unless you buy an all-in-one job which has cd/tuner/amp etc all built in

I think that would be more in my price range... Cuz I just looked at the prices of some seperate speakers and all...Amplifier and seperate speakers = my wallet's premature death

save your pennies and tolerate the tv speakers stereo.......
buy a Yamaha Amp rated 400-500+ watts with a set of sound Accoustic Shelf speakers that are ported rated at 200+ watts (5x of the shelf speakers for smooth and perfect surround sound reguardless of source audio being mono/stereo/quadrophonic/surround sound) You can then splurge on extra speakers or a sub woofer later as the ported shelf speakers with a tweeter and either 5+ " mids will produce a rather excellent low tones that'll be quite good in comparison to a sub. just an IMO, i've yet to have anyone come back and complain, any one that has come back says it blows the doors of those "5.1" sets you can buy as a combo.

Of course it'll blow the 5.1 sets if you buy the Amp and then the sub and speakers but so will your wallet. I am buying all this in one go and anyways, its not as if I'm accumulating money during the rest of the year.
I'm working a summer job (though it ain't summer but who cares?) and will have a set amount of money. Now I do you know Judas you are a quality freak (and hell you can afford that freakiness of yours) but I'm not THAT crazy and any decent 5.1 speaker set that can be both on the PC and Xbox 360 will be MORE than enough for me

If I ever gona build HQ home cinema I use my contacts in the word of pro ligting & sound industry and get some real amps! For 5.1 system I need 3 x stereo amps... and DD/DTS decoder hardware... but I'm not going to build that any time soon

get one of those "home theaters in a box"
Soy has an excellent 1000watt one that costs like, $5-600 and comes with a 5 disc dvd changer, and enough inputs to run a TV and a 360 and perhaps even a PC depending on cables off of it |

Hmmmm well could you post a link of a system like that? Just as an example because I haven't really seen those around
![]() EDIT: Apparently the Logitech Z-5450 can do more than one system.. PC, TV and Xbox 360 and the best part is: wireless rear speakers! Cool Anybody have any experience with these or the older Z-5500 digital?

When looking at sound quality, I prefer both the Creative and Klipsch multimedia solutions, but the z-5500 is champs in terms of connectivity, especially since both Klipsch and Creative have discontinued their digital decoders. Side Note: Digital speakers do not exist.

well i figured it'd be common sense that a wireless device of any type requires some form of power, and i highly doubt a battery is going to do the job
![]() yes you gotta plug them in, but it's not bad, just have to look at your room and hope to hell you've got vast supply of well placed plugins (and lets be frank, alot of people don't have houses that have well thought out plugins positions) luckily, anyone able or willing to go the mile of running new wireing quite easily or using hideaway extensions. IMO, it's always best to go with a wired solution, ALWAYS, it's just simply no chance of issues related to wireless connections ever happening. in which case the Z-5500 are probably your best choice ever.

Logitech makes the worst, nastiest, msot "splattery" subwoofers ever concieved by mankind.
If you want multimedia PC speakers, get Klipsch or Creative/Cambridge [I have the Cambridge S750 if I'm not msitaken, big Z has/had a set as well]...they hook up to your PC though, as they are 5.1 minijacks [red, green, and black headphone style plug ins], and not RCA or the like |

Well about the Z-5500s, I know they sound better than the Z-5450 and I definately agree that wired is better (reason I always have wired mice
) but the problem is that my room will be VERY unpractical to have the stuff wired to the decoder or sub or whatever the rear speakers hook up to. The wires would have to go to the cieling which is quite lame imho and difficult and all.The Z-5450 have more connectivity apparently (which is cool) and the wireless rear speakers do help me out. I know they drop to 48KHz sampling which sucks and that is fine with me ![]() As for getting Giga or Kiplish, I'm all for it as long as you guys find some wiht tons of connectivity too

I found the construction of the logitech subwoofers quite excellent at low volumes and retain excellent clarity at higher much higher volumes, reguardless were looking at logitech, the cheapest set of decent speaker setups i've seen yet in comparison to overall power output. BTW, wireless headphones are a hell of alot different then a set of full blown speakers.

"such a cool thing" sadly seems to have been discontinued and is getting even harder and harder to find, even on ebay and other places

Digital components can have a place, but it bugs me when people/companies hype the digital component/connections in speakers such as the Z-5500 as an advantage over competitors. Even switching between analog/digital on the Z-5500 speakers themselves will offer no real difference except for the, cable length, number of cables, etc (as long as no ridiculous interference in present, such as trying to thread your 18-guage wires through a microwave on their way to a speaker). The iDome system actually looks real interesting. Problem with audio components like that for me is that anything that will impress me much will generally be priced too high for the general consumer. IMHO, base 2.0 speaker solutions for musical use start out at about $500.

I agree, the iDome looks stunning and seem to be quite good at what they do (which is being speakers) but yeah, price is a factor for me, as is connectivity!

You guys can buy the iDomes for about 200USD as a 2.1, although we do sell them independently as well for those with smaller budgets. The real trick is once you have heard them, there is no going back.
