I own a sony TV because a friend died and left me the TV in her will. Its quite nice...but for the price of this flat screen CRT, you can buy an almost equal sized LCD TV from another brand.
I love their phones though but thats more ericsson than anything else. Sony just slaps their brand on.
What im not terribly fond of is their gaming division. I like the PS2 alright I guess because of the weird and interesting games (guitar hero, drum master, beatmania, DDR, etc. those are all VERY innovative). but at the end of the day they're machines that break down alot and cost alot of money.

My maindislike of Sony is that their gaming division in particular promise the world and deliver under expectations - dual HDMI, Emotion engine etc...
they seem the company who epitomise the marketing before customers approach

I picked "overpriced brand name".
I have bought many other products that have been just as good if not better and I didn't have to pay the "SONY" price for it.
I am talking about tv's, dvd players, vcr's, home theaters, computer monitors, etc...

This thread is about Sony in general and putting together all aspects of it to form your opinion. Including business practices, hardware usage, support and anything else having to do with Sony.
Good responses so far, I'm really interested in what people think at the moment.

I picked 'They are allright and make money for themselves.' I would probably pick the same for just about any company. All companies have their good and bad sides. Sometimes more than the other.

I dunno
I love my PS2, loved my PS1, have a Sony amp and sony deck hooked up to my comp, and I have a pricey pair of sony headphones.
But I still don't like them.
they're arrogant, but not in a good way. they don't always back up that sony brand name with that quality sony product
in my eye they're a bit like SkyTV; you don't particularly like them or what they're about, but you don't have much choice.

Sony thinks they can put their name (which meant something a long time ago) on something, slap it in some hip packaging, and then sell it for 30 bucks more than the competition. It doesn't even necessarily mean it's built better.
Screw them. Overpriced name brand.

slightly over priced, but stellar products.
If you can catch them on even a slight discount/sale they are hard to beat....at street prices though, Samsung wins 9 times out of 10

They are pretty good if you watch what you buy from them. I have a good set of Sony headphones for my computer for when I'm at a lan party or it's late at night. I also have an early Sony 5.1 reciever and an early DVD player that is back when 5.1 was only available as an analog connection via 3 sets of rca. Both still work great. I also have a minidisc deck and portable player which I still use on occation. The minidisc walkman will not die. I rolled my car and the walkman lived...
All my Sony equipment was bought from 1999-2000. Now with the rootkit & drm bull I will not buy another new Sony product. Besides thier optical drives are terrible. My brother and a friend of mine had thier Sony DVD burners die within a year.
I was never interested in the play station, but Gutar Hero is an awesome game!
