Gettin ready cause its about that time
Man, I'm 19 now that I think about it. Ya'll ever get to that point in your life where home is just missin something or drivin you out of your mind? Well I was there about 2 months ago. I can't stand this place, my parents, siblings even my neice sometimes (though she is one cute devil). I get my wish though Aug 1st as I'm leavin this place and never coming back. I may visit them but I kinda doubt it. I've lived in this city/house for pretty much my whole life and while I have some good memories the bod ones more than overshadow them. I wish I would have left when I was 17 or 18 but better late than never. My bro is like 24 and still livin here, depending on my family for everything. I don't care if I live in some crap town, I'm not livin here again. Besides my parents should be able to enjoy their life, all they need to do is get rid of their other two children.
So yeah, California is my home but I can't live in this city anymore. Too much bad blood and drama. So how was it for you guys when you first broke away from your parents?

I've done a lot of moving around sense I was 18... I moved out whilst still in highschool and then moved back in with parents few months after school was out, moved out again to go to college, moved back into parents house few months later because I could not aford to live in college town, moved out again and live in the college dorms now. I hope to get as far from my home town as possible after college.

almost did....but i lost my job, so that has kept me from "leaving the bird's nest" so to speak. i just now started working again, and it's only for the summer. this will let me catch up on my expenses that have accumulated due to you know.....not working . after summer is over, i'll be in the same situation again, where i have to look for a job again. hopefully the next job will pay the same or better as my current summer job is paying.
I'm leaving this place ASAP, but enjoying every possible momment i can have here. You know, my gf has been through hell and back several times before we got together. now that i'm here for her, everything has been becoming much easier for her as i am here to help her out. When things get hard for people, i believe it's hardest on women than it is for men.
and you know....the only difference between where we both live is less than 15min. away from each other

I joined the Corps and left 3 months out of high school. i left everything i knew, but its better than ending up an alcoholic dropped out of college, like i would have been. i get out in a year and hope that when i do, i won't need to stay with my parents to get back on my feet.

i havnt left yet, hopefully in the next 6 months or so i will.
my original plan was to finish highschool, take a year off, then join the USMC.
well all went according to plan, up until i was planning on joining. the nearest center was about 20 miles away, and with the highway shut down all summer long it took me over 40 mins of stop and go traffic the entire way there and back. happend both times i went out there to talk with them.
i said the hell with this, ill wait until next summer to do it since i sure as hell wasnt going back out on those roads over winter. its an absolute nightmare at best.
so now summer is here and i need to get off my ass and get out there. no more dealying either, ill be 21 in almost 6 months and havnt done jack shit in over 2 years.

If you would like any advice from me (had two bro's in the Army, and stayed on a millitary base and got to know quite a few people). I would say not to go with the Marines, from what I've heard they f you over. They sell the honor thing, but its all the same in the millitary. My advice, do Air Force or Army in a field you want to do. They'll pay for your college and you'll actually have time to do it.
My curent goal is Intel Analyst till I become an E4 then go for SF. Since your 21 the min age for SF is 20, and trust me those guys are a lot better than Marine Force Recon. Thats if your into the macho stuff : ). It depends on what you want to do man. If you want to be a sniper people will tell you Marine scout snipers are the best in the world, which frankley they are not. I've seen a sniper attached with delta and man he would be the best in the world if they ackowledged Delta formaly.
If you have your heart set on Marines then by all means go for, I'm just sayin consider your options. In the end, the millitary with f u over in some way. : ) gl man.
I'm lookin forward to my 6 months of basic and AIT, and SF lol is 2 years...

@ GDF: i've heard everybody who's in one branch of the military talk smack about all the other branches (like you're doing to the USMC in this thread ). i just find it funny really, because in the battle field, it doesn't matter who you are, a bullet will still pierce through your flesh . that.....or just go into a branch you feel most comfortable with and talk smack about the other branches of the military
@ Guyver2k5: i felt exactly how you feel now....but i didn't feel that way UNTIL i started college. i didn't feel that electrical engineering (my declared major at the time) was the right thing for me. what i suggest is going to school and taking some GEs first, and then pursue the ones that you feel interest you most. BUT, do not declare a major until your 3rd year of school, as it is ALOT easier to declare a major than it is to change a major.
@ kn00tcn: sometimes pursuing a hobby isn't always the best thing in the world for some people as their career. just look at professional basketball players. why do you think so many of them play golf on their free time ?

dood, I'd have left home when I was 18 too, but things are not always that easy. I'm 28 now, and graduated from university 1 month ago (it's a LONG story why I graduated this old, might share it with you some other time). I've been living alone for 2 months now and loving it.

My oldest brother just graduated high school. He almost failed high school and somehow got a $30,000 scholarship to Devry A lot of his classes are online courses, but my parents will probably kick him out soon enough
Me, on the other hand, I just finished freshman year of high school lol. I have no idea what I'm gunna do or anything, though I have a few years. I don't think I've found anything I'm "extraordinarily good at" yet, though I am interested in computers and that stuff..
And there's no way I'm joining the military Probably be a draft by the time I'm of age anyway

hey! that's where i go to! lol. school is expensive like no other too ! seriously, having that 30k scholarship will last him about half way through his schooling at devry. it's like 6k a semester there for full time students.
do you know what he's majoring in?

I know it's something about networking, not sure exactly what though
When he went for the scholarship interview, they even said that it was his personality that got him the scholarship (he made the people laugh and everything)

It does matter actually, The Army gets the latest equipment because they make it and Marines get stiffed. I know quite a few guys in the marines, some love the corp no matter what. A lot though aggree that at this point in time the marines is really not a way to go.
Also Army promotes the fastest (every makes the same amount of money by rank).
I'm not talkin smack about the Marines, I just think the Army has more oportunities.
Its all different for everyone.
