Already put together my first rig for a company.
Budget rig, majority of it's all office work, but there dealing with rather large data bases and large memory footprint programs..
anyways, basically they need xp pro and a reasonably decent machine.. nothing to fancy...
so
1900+ amd athlon
gigabyte board
512mb ram
40gb HD
9200np
300 watt enermax
case and a few other things
thinking 750ish when i get it done
sound reasonable?
(remember this is roughly with tax and in canadian currency)

750 is about 550 US dollars right? If so that doesnt sound all that fair considering thats like my pc minus the video card and 512mb ram. I guess though if your building it for them installing all software, updates, and offer some kind of warranty its ok, But there are still other name brand computers that they could pick up for cheaper + theyll be a little newer/better.

Seems pricey... checking the Dell flyer my dad recieves, a $550 rig before taxes/shipping comes with a 2.8 GHz Celeron and 80 GB hard drive.
I'm looking at selling my 2600+/1 GB ram/120 GB drive, probably going to ask around $600 for it.

I've come to the conclusion that building lower end PCs really isn't cheaper to do on your own. The big companies get a big discount on the cheap stuff AND they include windows. So it's really hard to make a break in that market.

Maybe with a monitor included it would be ok, but as it stands, it sounds pricey.

building systems can be a quick way to go broke these days I had to get out of that business since there is no room for markup on items if the people you are selling to surf the web for prices it's too cut throat for me these days

yes
We don't have the advantages of having things shipped here cheaply....
and i have absalutely zero competition really....
the cheapest machine we can get from dell which on there website says 499... but by the time it gets out here.. and taxes are due.. it's well over 700+ bucks... and that's for a POS dell, everything intergrated.. lowest preformance, Celery cpu...
350 bucks gets you a 500mhz AMD K6-2 with 256mb of ram and 15gb HD...
Even without the OS loaded... there HAS to be markup if it's just a small amount..
Those are retail results...
I can beat them now.. but the price is reasonable for the time being..
For example.. i could techinically build the 750 machine i built (although better parts) for nearly have that and still make a buck.. But i've got to make a living and make the business profitable.... without gouging out anyones eyeballs.. i'm pretty good in make damn sure the machine works top and provide the best support i can....
