Might be on Crutches for a Few Days....
I have no idea how, but, my left ankle is sprained to the point that I barely can put weight on it.
After my work shift last night, I went to the local Huddle House to get a bite to eat. Nothing gave me any indication that there was any problem with my ankle. But, after eating, when I got up to leave my ankle felt like it had been twisted. I limped to the car and came on home.
I was hoping that a night off of it and some good rest would help. Nothing doing! It's worse today than last night.
I still can't figure out how it got sprained.

But there was no pain or anything when I sat down to eat. It only showed up as I got up to leave. Very strange....

you may have just had your ankle sitting wrong when you were sitting down, and slowly pulled the muscle… but i'm not a doctor so don't take that as fact

It's never affected me before.
Those 6 oz ribeye steaks with shrimp, salad, and baked potatoes with Texas toast are too tempting.

speedy recovery wished
speaking from experience (with a knee as opposed to ankle right enough, close enough ) if you've already damaged the muscle or ligament, and then spend some time letting them contract back to a rested state (in your case sitting eating, mine was driving for 3 hours), the injury might only manifest it when you try to stretch out and put similar strain on it as you were before you sat down to dinner.
I'm not a doctor or anything, but this was my physio's explanation for my dodgy knee problems, so just thought I'd pass it along

I've been thinking back to anything that I might have done through the evening to damage my ankle.
The only thing that comes to mind is that I might have stepped on the edge of a sidewalk -- where it meets the grass -- and maybe tweaked it there. But, I felt nothing at all when I did that. No pain, no discomfort whatsoever.
But, I have been thinking that maybe since I stayed on my feet for a few hours after that the relaxation maybe allowed it to swell. That makes as much sense as anything else I've come up with.

I feel your pain. I dislocated my knee a few weeks ago. Still hurts.

Did you beat the crap out of a T-rex so much you broke you legs?
Edit: well you could always break your ankle out of spite to teach it a lesson for disobeying.
