the 6200 is a bottom line newer card. It's certainly not a work horse and I would advise buying it if you plan to play games in the future. Spend the extra few buck and get a 6800 or even a 6600.

http://www.nvnews.net/previews/geforce_6200/index.shtml some benchies
http://www.digital-daily.com/video/n...up/index02.htm and some more graphs

If you don't play games, its a good card, but for longevity's sake, i'd get something a bit more powerful.

Like i said this is a PCI card for "us" PCI owners. the 6800 and 6600 dont come in PCI format. only AGP or PCI-E.

oh, I see. I saw PCI and assumed PCI express, my bad. As far as that goes, I would say this is possibly top of the line for you. In fact, I didn't know they even made one in PCI.

I know. I was a bit concerned at first thinking that this was a big hoax. But i went to my local PCWORLD and there it was on the shelf (PCWORLD suck and i never thought they would have one as they seem very rare). Its £50 in the shop but i haven't got it yet.

i assume this is for a third computer? The two in your sig definately have an agp or pci-e slot. I definately wouldnt even expect the newer games to be playable on that card, so in that case buy it if you need a replacement display card but if you have onboard, stick with that

The first computer in my sig is a Dell. So i only have PCI slots. The second one is my PCI-E computer. I'm thinking of getting a 6600gt for it.

ahh sweet mate. have you played any other higher-end games like Doom 3, Far Cry, Fear or Q4? I know they obviously wont run on super high settings, but i would like to know how they perform on this card.

If you could post any other of your FPS from other games then that would help.

Cheers

@Randomletters: Its a Dell so, you know, nothing really more I can say :P

@IEMC: That sounds really good. I may invest in one of these. Do you think it is possible to unlock the extra 4 pipelines? Since pretty much all Geforce 6200's are really toned down versions of the normal 6600?

That would be really cool if you could unlock those extra pipes.

I got my Dell about 3 years ago. Its the Dimension 2400 so it only has PCI slots. Not even AGP or anything.

But do you think this card (6200) will be an improvement over my FX5200?

Here are the specs of both:

Here is the FX 5200 specs:

Memory Clock Speed: 400 MHz
RAMDAC Clock Speed: 350 MHz
Graphics Processor Data Width: 64-bit
Video Memory Installed: 128 MB
63 million vertices/sec.
CineFX 1.0 engine

And the 6200 specs:

Core Clock: 350MHz
RAMDACs: Dual 400MHz
Graphics Processor Data Width: 128-bit
Video Memory Installed: 128MB DDR
263 million vertices/sec.
CineFX 3.0 engine
Full DirectX 9.0 support
NVIDIA Ultrashadow II technology
64-bit floating point texture filtering and blending

Maybe I've missed something, but surely it would be wiser to just replace the motherboard? I mean, I assume you can do that even with a Dell? Seems to make more sense to me than trying to milk PCI.
