Fx5900 to 5950 ultra with Riva Tuner RC 15.5 ?
Hi guys!
I own a MSI FX 5900XT.128mb.
And I read about the "softmod", converting the 6200 to 6600, using Rivatuner V.2.0 RC 15.5 "NV Strapdriver" utility. And as FX5900XT and 5950 U, Works the same way, as the 6000 series. I thought "What the hec!"
So I did it like this:
I uninstalled the driver and used NVClean, afterwards.
Then I installed the Riva Tuner.
Then I rebooted.
Opening Rivatuner, I Checked "Use ROM straps for PCI Device ID programming".
And I set "Graphic adapter ID" to "Custom"
In the window there, I did set it to " 0333 Nvidia Geforce FX 5950 Ultra".
Then I reinstalled the latest Omega driver and rebooted.
And when I checked the Cards propertys, it says "Geforce 5950 Ultra". 128mb
Windows Device Manager, says the same.
Sandra says it also. And Everest Home.
And I swear, the image quality have improved! I can se it in shadows and highligts in games for instance + details. The 3D have also improved slightly. The games I tested, I have played so many times now. That I know how they look like by heart.
So that's the improvements, I noticed for now.
But as I am no specialist in what Riva tuner actually does. And I cant for sure say is I have succeded in fooling this MSI FX 5900XT, to act like the 5950 U, all the way, or is it maybe just partially?
I read, that you also can make a 6800, become "Geforce Quadro FX 4000" this way.
There whas some guys in a forum, discussing that topic.
So if anyone can fill me in on what actually happend to my card. I would be very interested to hear about it.
Also would like to add, that I'm aware, that you can flash Bios to FX 5950U. But I will not risk that. Even if it will render bigger improvements than this.
