Returning my old MSI RX9800Pro - change it for a GPU from NVidia? Details inside.

Hi,

after the huge problems (artifacts, sys-crashes, etc. -> Thread )I had to face
over the course of the last week I realized that I should try to return
my old GPU (MSI RX9800Pro-TD128) and maybe get myself a new PSU
from NVidia instead.

Just want to hear some of your opinions regarding Nvidia graphics cards
and which one I should probably get. Keep in mind: I'm returning my
old GPU and will try go get a GPU of the same price (~200Euros)... so
6800Ultra-uber-cards are a bit out of the question... can't pay another
100Euros :-/ Just want to try and get myself an nvidia gpu, because I
remember how angry I was about the shitty performance of the ATI
cards in Doom3 in comparison to those of nvidia.

Sooo... Gonna leave in about an hour and read as many reviews as
I can in the remaining time but I would be REALLY glad if some of you
could give me a hint.

Cheers

Fae your saying that that your not getting an Ati card because of crap performace in Doom3 SO WAT if your just gonna avoid Ati because of doom3 then thats abit wierd because doom 3 isent any good anyway u should go get a X850 it would be alot better than a Nvidia and you dont need silly SLI because SLI just is plain stupid because ati with one card has allreaddy beaten it

So dude go get a Ati x800 of someking and enjoy the fantastic AA i got a 9600PRO and it looks amazeing even with my crap comp

That was a lot of crap in a small amount of words. What part of "uber cards are a bit out of the question" didn't you understand? SLI wasn't even in his question. But if you want to troll against NVidia please go to the appropriate forum.

Fae, if you want an NVidia in the mid-price level I'd say 6600GT. Most are good overclockers too. There are sometimes really good prices on 6800GT too but I'm not sure how much they are right now. The 6800GT might be a bit on the expensive side for you but shop around online. Good luck.

Doom3 you NEED a good processer, im talking like a AMD 64 3800 to play on high so I wouldn't blame it on ATI. It might be a little faster on nvidia but not much and its only that game. And ut2k4wikichici that really is a load of crap. Doom3 is a great game. As for SLI the picture quality is horible ( as many say ).

I would focus on a new processer. I recommend AMD if your going to play games.

Hi again

After failing to return the GPU (crap shop... wanted me to send the card directly
to MSI, would have to wait 6-8 weeks before I get SOMETHING back...) I'm trying
to sell / auction it off.

Now I've got someone who wants to by the old card and I think I'm going with
his offer - still, there's the thing about what to get next.

My fav is still the "LEADTEK WinFast A6600GT-TDH128", which seems to be
quiet nice and fast. In other threads I read some names like XFX, BF-something and
so on. Tom's Hardware Guide seems to point to the Leadtek too

Soo... I'm still searching for a good choice, don't want to get anything worse
than the old one.

Before I forget: I'm going to buy an AGP GPU, not a PCI-E one, 'cause my
MoBo doesn't support the new port. Hope the difference between those
two is not TOO huge

Any ideas / hints? Your favs?

Hmm I wonder if the x700 would be good for you? I'm not sure how it compares to the 9800Pro though. However, the 6600GT are pretty nice too. If you can get one /w as much ram as possible.

Update: Crap I know I just seen something about a 256 meg x700 card, and now I can't find it!!

Dude did you even read the threads? D3 runs fine on the card, and it's HL2 that is the big problem. BTW to put a bug up your socket I went from a X800xtpe to an EVGA Ultra...couldn't of been happier. Nana nana piss pooh..awe
