First of all welcome to DH

Your vid card sounds like it maybe a temp issue. Here is what I'd do... download this applicaztion here and run it in a Window - not full screen. Open the nVIDIA temp applet with the display control pannel and watch the temps rise, keep a tab on how hot it gets and report back here.

Application download

The features of the benchmark application are:

Rthdribl is a "Real-time High Dynamic Range Image-Based Lighting" demo. DirectX(R) 9.0 high-precision texture formats and version-2.0 of Pixel Shader represent real-time true HDR rendering. Technical features of the demo are:
  • True HDR (High-Dynamic Range) Rendering
  • IBL (Image-Based Lighting)
  • Glare Generation (Afterimage, Bloom, Halo, Ghost, and Star)
  • Automatic Exposure Adjustment
  • Iris shaped Depth of Field blur
  • Realistic Motion Blur
  • FSAA (Full-Scene Anti-Alias)
  • Fresnel Effect (Specular Reflectance) etc.
And they really heat up your card and use 100% of its processing power. I use this application to test new drivers to monitor my temps before I am comfortable.

when the video card doesnt get enough energy from the ps it get stressed and it overheats.so the problem can be the ps .

look into getting the NV5 VGA silencer for your gfx card. It really helps alot in keeping your video card cool.

Yeah I think the PSU could be also the cause of the froze problem... That's a small PSU for the big card there.

Yeah, I have heard that some GPU's require as much as a 480W PSU like my 6800 ULTRA OC. What CPU temps do you get, it may be the case layout and a lack of ventilation, but the PSU is def suspect no.1

My GPU barely exceeds 65 on full load, so to me 80 degrees is a little over the top in terms of stability for your card.

Look into atleast a 400 watt PSU, but I'd grab a 470watt if possible.

and a good one(Vantec, OCZ, etc)...most PSU's that come with cases aren't too great

Yeah, 80C is hot, but really should not be a problem..definately shouldn't crap out the card. A new power supply is a great idea. When I got my leadtek 6800gt I got a new psu too (Enermax 460W) The 6800gt, I think, sucks 100W or more.

i have a 6800GT o/c which locks up after 10-15 mins. my psu is only 400w and i read somewhere that a card like that needs at least 480w so i just ordered a 600w psu!
That should power the GT and everything else!
my temp at the moment is nearly 90C!!

90 is within the normal parameters I think but it is still incredibly hot. My Leadtek 6800GT is at 60 and I think that is too high. Though I know what the problem is, my card is angry because it had to move into another case.
