Just installed 6800 GT...black screen prob.

Well, I just got my BFG 6800 GT OC and I just installed it.

I'm pretty sure I plugged everything in correctly, but when I go to start my computer, the tower turns on, and I can hear the fans from the gfx card working. I hear an unusually long beeping noise coming from the tower now, and my monitor remains black, and it says "Please check signal" and then goes into a standby mode...can anyone help? I've already tried even using the VGA adapter but that didn't do anything. Any help is appreciated.

Here's my specs:
2.4 Ghz Processor
1 Gb PC3200 RAM
80 GB MAXTOR HD 7200 RPMS
420 W PSU

How do you have power routed to the card?

nvm, in all of my rage I JUST got the card working, it was strange...

I reset my PC via the reset button rather than shutting down regularly then, once it came back on I got a visual...

Meh, whatever.

Mods feel free to close this

You didn't say what your mother board is.
This could be a BIOS error on startup, especially if you were used to oc CPU, RAM or AGP etc... Anyway, today BIOS would crash and then reboot properly with basic settings.
What you described happened to me quite often when I was playing with settings. You may need to reset completely the BIOS in order to restore a stable situation.

Well you were right, crashed is a good word to describe it.

My computer locked up, restarted itself, and now restarts with weird flashing colors, and then I get the "Frequency Over Range" message. Any idea what's wrong?

If this is a BIOS problem, how can I go about fixing this?

My mobo is an AOpen, I'm not sure the exact model, but it's about 2 years old. I'd pull up the info on it via Aida...but it should seem the computer isn't really functional at the moment

As Good as BFG is at makin' things slightly OC'd...the 6800GT's have too many probs IMO.

frequency over range is for your monitor. you need to readjust your refresh rate & make sure you tale a look at res.
that happens sometimes when you install a new card driver windows will automatically set the monitor driver to default while keeping your previous refresh/res settings. all you have to do is install the inf for your monitor & it should take care of the problem.
assuming that is the problem.
umm, did your computer actually boot or did this happen in post?
'cause if it is post then you need to reset your bios to default as stated above.
hope all that helps. if it does not, call bfg, i have heard they have good support.

I don't quite understand why I'm getting the "Frequency Over Range" because I'm pretty sure a two year old monitor should be able to handle 1024 x 768 resolution :/.

Oh well, this is a huge nightmare, and I've pretty much lost faith in myself in installing ANY new PC upgrades. So tomorrow I'm bringing it to a repair shop tomorrow and HOPEFULLY they'll be able to tell me what's wrong with it, because as of now I can't even access the BIOS because my monitor shows no visual. At first I thought this was a PSU issue, so here I have this brand new 550 W Enermax PSU sitting next to me, but I'm gonna let the repair shop install that, because knowing me I'd probably mess it up.
