NVidia HL2
So?
Nobody talking about HL2 on NVidia?
On mine (Leadtek 6800 GT) it runs perfectly .
I guess it is the same for most users, reason why nobody started such thread so far .

Youre right there, my radeon 9500 PRO can run HL2 in directX 9 mode, while my FX5900 can't in directX 9 mode, because it's not a "real" directX 9 card according to Valve.
Well, that's just a bunch of B*llsh*t, it's just a power struggle between ati and Nvidia.
Nvidia made a deal with ID so that doom 3 is optimized for Nvidia hardware, and Ati made a deal with Valve so that it would be optimized for ati hardware.
Probably Valve took it a little further, so that Nvidia FX's don't have DX 9 shaders in HL2.
They would probably would have done the same thing to the 6800 series, but that would look a little suspicious, that the latest and fastest card wouldnt be able to run DX9 in HL2.

thats ridiculous that you cant run it in dx9. If anything, they should only disallow sm2.0, as that is where the problem with the fx series lies. Disabling all of dx9 is just stupid.
on my system, i run everything at highest, @ 1280x1024 with 4xAA and 8xAF. Never see lag, it's a wonderful engine.

it will run it fine, but only in dx8.1 mode apparently. in all honesty, you probably wont be able to tell THAT much of a difference betwixt the two. (hahah i used betwixt)

I have run it the same way as Nacht and not seen any problems with lag on my Ultra.
Why do they say the game will run better on ATI Cards?
Is that something to do with SM 2.0, I'm pretty sure 6800's use SM 3.0, is the performance not as good as version 2.0 ?

for 6 series NV cards, sm2.0 and 3.0 are no problem. the reason it sucked on FX cards was due to the pipeline architecture. They revamped it in the new cores, and it can take the shader commands in any order, fixing the FX's problems. it is faster on ATi cards now, but just becuase it has been specifically optimized for them.

this is my comp...
intel p4 560 hyper threading 3.60 ghz 800 front side bus
asus motherboard p4t-e
1000 mb ram
geforce 6800 ultra extreme
1000 page file for virtual memory
i have no probs with hl2, doom3, and farcry at 100 refresh rate hertz, 1152x864 resolution, maximum settings 8x/16x AA AF.
i get around 70-100 or so fps.
the trick is to configuration, direct x 9.0c, windows service pack 2, new chipset drivers, motherboard drivers...
some of you state that smart shader 2.0 to 3.0 software is giving you probs... obviously you have done something wrong... like not reading before doing... i have no probs with em. there are manuals.
if you want my complete setup just ask me in private message or what ever. works for every one and takes at most 20 mins to setup, enless you screwed something up.
peace.
