Sad My New BFG Geforce 6800GT OC

Ok, well I have just switched over from ATI, and I need some help. From most the articles I read, it seems this card can do some pretty decent overclocking. I, on the other hand..is having problems trying to overclock it. I use coolbit, and I still can't overclock with it, I use river turner, and I think I got it up to 400/1100...but was seeing artifacts in games I think, or atleast glitches. What are the best drivers to use for this card, and do can I overclock it without any problems? It seems I'm seeing people hitting 425/1106, adverage..I barely can reach 400/1100..what is my problem? This card is brand new, so there shouldn't be a problem overclocking it at the moment I would believe.. please help.

System Specs

also not all cards are created equally, some don't overclock as well as others.

also some cards need to be "tenderized" a little before they can reach their full potential. try running it stock for a week or two before doing any major overclocking.

i doubt 425 on the core is average. i would say that most people overclock to the 6800U settings and that's about it. You have to remember that some cards overclock more than others. Mine, i could run at 400/1.1 with stock cooling, except for REALLY intense things (like doom 3), because it would slow down then. once I installed the NV5 and put on arctic silver, i was able to take it much higher. it just depends on the card really, some can go higher than others.

Although Omega's driver and support them I'll have to disagree with HawgsHead. For ATI they're the way to go, but with nvidia there are newer, faster, better forcewares betas coming out fairly often and these will give you better performance and many bug fixes which Omega's can't offer, because no human could keep up all with all the forceware driver releases.

yea, for right now i would say to go with the official ones, the leaked 66.81, or the newest betas.

Well it's like Nacht said, all cards don't clock the same. My gainward clocks to 430/1250, haven't tried to go further though.

Do you have any case cooling?? Maybe a fan blowing over the card??

Ocing is luck of the draw. Some cards are better than others.

What version of the BFG do you have? is it the one with the dual fan copper heatsink?

tampering with the heatsink, etc. will void your warranty. if you got the dualie, then you're in good shape already. no need to mess with it.

what drivers are you using? some drivers are more glitchy than others. You can try the 66.93, 66.81, 66.70 or 65.73s.
The last thing you could do is bump up the core voltage. Again, this will probably void your warranty. You'd have to mod the bios and flash it. I take no responsibility if you mess up your brand new card. if you need help, here's a good place to start:
