6800 Owners Look In - Disturbing!!
VERY DISTURBING IF TRUE (WHICH SEEMS TO BE)...................
nVidia Say's

"The AGP version of the 6800 chip has a broken video processor, it will never work properly due to a design problem. They will have to redesign the chip (either a new 6800 stepping or a completely new 6900 chip) to get it working properly. The PCI-Express versions of the 6800 and the 6200 and 6600 series have a perfectly working video processor."

Meh, what's the big deal. Hey, as long as my card can play better than another sub $400 card that for some reason only has 12 pipes I don't care

Yup..........well I can tell you its an RMA job for me and most probably lots more......as nVidia still clearly states onsite and also on the packaging for my product ......that this feature is included on the 6800 series!
I also see it didnt take long for a few A$$h0les to get their stupid childish remarks in......pathetic! GROW UP!
People who get great comfort out of others misfortune dont even deserve what they themselves have!

Lets NOT turn this thread into a ATI vs Nvidia bash and hate thread.

I dont know, I have done some tests and my CPU usage seems to be about the same if not alittle less then my 9800XT?? Maybe it is just the Earlier 6800s? Even then it is not like it affects the 3D proformance of the cards in a game?? Which is really what I want the card for??

Hmm......
Thats like saying I bought a colour TV but when I got it home I found out the colour chip is broken......but its ok because all I want to do is watch the programmes anyway............so i'll watch in black and white!!?
Its not the point!!
When u pay big money for a product thats supposed to do things you bought it for (and quite a few have for this purpose alone) you expect it to function exactly as you have paid for it to do so!

LOL......it gets worse!! DAMN nVIDIA!!
Nvidia 6800 acceleration works
Video acceleration works
The Inquirer

Quote:
WE WROTE this article yesterday but Nvidia has given us guidance on the subject.
Nvidia 6800 generation indeed has hardware video support up and running. It will work just fine if you download new drivers which are expected soon and will appear on its web site. You will need the Nvidia DVD decoder as well.
Some people already have these drivers and you can check our friends' web site which has already tried them out, here.
Here is original response that we got from Nvidia on this matter just a few minutes ago.
Hey Fudo,
In answer to your story on 6800 having no video.
The GeForce 6800 models featured the 1st generation of our programmable video technology which includes support for high-definition MPEG2 video decode and standard definition MPEG2 encode, as well as advanced post processing features such as motion adaptive deinterlacing, and inverse 3:2 pulldown.
The GeForce 6600 models have the same 1st generation programmable video technology support as the GeForce 6800 models. However, the GeForce 6600 models also include hardware acceleration for high-definition Windows Media Video (WMV) decode.
In order to utilize the programmable decode and advanced post processing features of the GeForce 6800 and 6600, end users need to download an updated ForceWare driver as well as the NVIDIA DVD decoder.
The ForceWare driver will be available shortly on the NVIDIA.com and the NVIDIA's DVD decoder is already available for download from NVIDIA.com. For Windows Media Video decode on the GeForce 6600 models, end users will also need to download an update to Windows Media Player from Microsoft.
NVIDIA is also working with application vendors to take advantage of the programmable encode features of the GeForce 6800 and 6600. This feature just like programmable pixel shaders when they were first introduced, requires additional collaboration with application vendors. The first application that NVIDIA is targeting to support it's GPU encode capabilities is Windows Media Center Edition 2005.” Adam

So........ let me see if I have this straight......now.......bear with me...
To fix a problem (or enable a feature that is supposed to already be enabled) we have to........
1. Wait till a driver set comes along enabling features that are broken due to Hardware failure.
2. Go back to nvidia and "purchase" software (nDVD) at a further cost of $20????!
Well thats great..... we get Mpeg2 decoding......which we've basically known all along works. And what was touted as a major feature (wmvHD decoding) will work for what is essentially a lower grade card. For some reason.......I find this b*llsh*t.
I paid for what Nvidia said/advertised/promised/touted was in the new card and I expect to get it!
nVidia back on form......up to their old tricks again!!!
Figures....

This is bad, however I got my card at $330US and it was alot cheaper then anything ATi had that can match it.
The market is getting tougher now. There is alot more involved in making these cards. Things are going to go wrong and there will always be bugs. You have to understand this.
Also it is nothing like a Color TV, lol. I dont even touch video encoding?? I just play games, check my email and surf the web. I watch movies, but I already checked and my card plays them great with less CPU usage then my 9800XT???
So this comes down to you needing this one thing, So I guess you should have researched that it was going to work for you? I knew before I brought the card that it would work perfect for what I wanted?
To me, it makes no difference if it works or not? Not like a Color TV not playing in color.
