leadtek ripoff?
i got my leadtek 6880gt a couple of days ago. been trying to overclock it from 900 to1000 mem. got to 960. well as ihave been doing this something had been ticking in the back of my head & then today it dawned on me(yes i am slow), one of the reasons i got this card is because it has been advertised as stock 1000!
so i went to their website, sure enough 1000! went to 2 different reviews on the card, both at 1000! so i took a look at my box, it has mem speed at 900. apparentley leadtek has 2 different types of gt cards out there that they are selling at the same price- while not letting anyone know.
i have a call into them now & am waiting for a response. will update.

contacted the company i ordered it from-gameve.com- they said the card was shipped directly from leadtek & they have no control over inventory there. sounds about right with demand the way it is. also said they would 'look into it'.
i also told them they might wat to confirm specs before posting them. they are checking that too.
really tired of this shit. getting ready for a 2nd rma on a 36 raptor i ordered to become my boot drive(also got a 160 'cuda 4 storage) my mb&xp 'see' the cuda but not the raptor. sent it back, got a new one & same problem!
what adds fuel to the fire is i ordered everything(there is more stuff) with expidited shipping. now i am having to send stuff back of incompetence/defectiveness. what a waste of $$.
just got off the phone with leadtek-fast response!. acorrding to them they released a 'lite' gt 2 weeks ago. has 450 mem & is supposed to be labled 'lite'- mine isnt.
i would also imagine the gpu is from a slightly slower bin too though rated speed is the same. i only got 10-15mhz oc were most reports put leadteks 'reg' gt oc much higher.
anyway, according to leadtek 'somebody' must have removed the label. they also said the lite vers price should be approx $50 less than a reg gt. i paid reg gt price-$390- for mine.

just got of the phone with gameve, looks like leadtech either was trying to run a scam or just poor communication. not sure which, but am hleaning towards poor communication.
anyway there is quite a few of these 'lite' cards coming down the pipe, so do your due diligence.
imo ther might be a shortage of the speedier partsd out there so keep an eye out on other brands too.

So what are you going to do?? Couldn't you get it replaced with one that is rated 1000 as this seems to be a mistake from Leadtek??

it would be nice but i doubt it.
one of the giggest pains is installing. my case is in an awkward place, has dual ps & various other minor mods that make replacing things a pain. this & time was the 2 reasons i paid for expedited shipping on my orders in the 1st place. best laid plans.....
even with all this crap going on i still like the leadtek card. very quiet.

update!
talked to gameve today, they said that leadtek is giving them some bullshit line & that this is the only gt avail. said he is still working on it & would get back to me later today. guy is being helpful.
so i decided to call leadtek again to see what they had to say now. according to the person i talked too ALL LEADTEK GT CARDS ARE NOW THE 'LITE' VERS. for awhile anyway. and contrary to what they told me in my previous ph call with them the price is the same as the reg gt that post on their site. of course i pointed out the problem with that.
anyway the guy from leadtek had me email him my problem so he could run it by his superiors & hopfully get it rectified.
asked him how tha was going to work if they did not have reg gt around. he said it might take awhile.
again, make sure if you order a gt, that it is up to spec!! i would do this with any manafacturer as there is a parts shortage out there.

I would return the damn thing and say it was misleading marketing as it really is, then if it works buy another brand, I heard that Inno 3D is a good card and MSI is also another alternative or go extreme and take the one I have Gainward, it clocks like hell.

i am not sure what to think about them anymore. they seem, so far to be willing to take care of the problem, but it is getting a little smelly.
they should have updated their website when the 1st of those lite cards shipped.

danhill, returning it without having another card in my possession leaves my comp without. i put my old 4400 in my wifes computer, & gave her g3 64mb to a friend once i had the card installed & stressed for 6hrs. i did not figure the discrepancy out till a couple of days later.
the card was part of a upgrade that has had other problems so it did not get my undivided attention at 1st. that & i'm kinda slow sometimes
gameve is working on a solution, just not sure what or when. leadtek says the same thing.
just got this from leadtek, gives me some hope, maybe this whole thing is just a big communication error.
First of all, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused.
I have reported that to our engineering team and related departments.
We are checking any possible solutions and try to resolve this issue ASAP

i am hoping they will work this out themselves & soon. i will give them till friday. then i will start turning up the heat.
of course that is the downside to the internet, you cant just go down to your local store & get in somebodys face & let other customers know how they are being ripped of. not that i have ever done that.

Mike, the longer you wait the harder it's going to be to get your problem rectified.. I have a lot of experience buying online (like all of us I am sure)..
They are just stalling.. Write them an email stating that you got ripped off and want a FULL refund and want your shipping money compensated both ways... I had the exact same thing happens when I bought my 9700pro a long time ago- I got a "lite" Powercolor or some generic crap card when it was advertised as an "ATI 9700 pro"...
I should have know when it was 270 bucks and all the other 9700pro's at the time were 300 dollars and out of stock. ----remember that?
Anyway- Just get a refund, GameVE is sketchy to me, always has been.
They knew exactly what they were doing, don't let them fool you. It is a scam and you deserve an INSTANT complete and total refund. Go buy it somewhere else.
http://www.driverheaven.net/showpost...35&postcount=1
Here is the e-mail I wrote to them- Got my money back and they paid for shipping both ways and waived the restocking fee too. You are in same boat, go t product other than advertised. Don't take no for an answer.
Quote:
Item Problem:I am not sure if you are aware of this or not, but I believe I got the wrong Video card- it was advertized as oem "Built by ATI" that is why I purchased the card. This is the quote from the webpage---
"Special Sale! ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128 MB DDR CRT+TVOut+DVI,-- BULK -- Built by ATI" here-
http://www.ateck.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=453055075
The picture is also quite different from the card I got- I believe the picture is of a "built by ATI" 9700pro. This is the only reason that I even care about this:
*ATI 9700pro cards have 3.0ns (max default speed 666.6 mhz-DDR or [333.3mhz]) bga ram. This ram is clocked at 310 (620) by ATI at the factory.
*This card has Infineon 3.3ns ram (max speed 606.06 mhz-DDR or [303.03 mhz])
-I have found many retailers that sell the correct card for same price. This card is in perfect new working condition. It is just a slower card, I checked ATI's websight and they have ways to check and see if it is built by ATI or "Pwered by ATI". This one was not as far as I can tell- none of the S/N or part numbers match. The web pages are here--> http://mirror.ati.com/support/identify/cardver.html
and here---> http://apps.ati.com/102lookup/
as well as others.
On one of these pages it says this:
-----Using the POWERED BY ATI Graphics Board Identification Chart. Graphics boards that have ATI Graphics chips which cannot be identified by the 102 product number, and that has no visible Manufacturer Part Number beginning with "100" is likely produced by one of our valued partners.-----
This is a very nice video card and someone will be very happy with it- I just wanted the "built by ATI" card and not the "powered by ATI" card. Even though it is OEM, I still thought it was an built by ATI OEM, not PowerColor oem or another ATI partner company card.
I talked to Jimmy a few minutes ago and requested him to waive the 15% restocking fee since the card is not defective but the only reason I want to return it is because of the 3.3 ns ram and that it is not as far as I can tell a "built by ATI" video adapter. He told me to also request it here in this RMA request.
I would also request that I be reimbursed for the shipping cost to ship it back to you as well. I could send you a fax of receipt for the cost of shipping, I should be able to ship it back for 6 dollars or so.
I would also consider an exchange with a RETAIL BOX ATI 9700PRO for an added charge of 30 dollars, as I can find them for 290 dollars. That would be the only other solution aside from a refund. I realize your price is higher than that, but that is what they are going for now on other websites.
I would like to ship this back to you as soon as possible.
It has been a pleasure doing business with you and as far as I can tell you have great customer support and very fast shipping. I hope to do more business with you in the future.
Thank you for your time.

got an email from leadtek-
"We may have some 6800GT (regular version) available next week.
Please wait for a few more days"
i sent them reply stating that i find it hard to believe that they do not have an equivalent or better performer in stock & that i was tired of the aggravation & my time being wasted. also asked them why the reg gt is still up on their site & how come the gt lite is not. also asked them how they felt about customer ill will & bad publicity.
