Saving Energy on 6800GT

The 6800GT is quite hot and consuming a lot of energy.
Anybody knows if it is possible to switch it off when the PC is on for a long time without activity?
I'm on Win XP but couldn't find any option to do that.

The only thing you can control is the fan speed. Otherwise, hibernate is your only alternative.

Actually the PC doing some long computations and I just don't need to check it. So I cannot hibernate it.
What about 2D underclocking?
I did try but, suprise, surprise, this just crashed the PC.
Lol everybody is rushing for overclocking when underclocking is just as much challenging.

try power options in control panel, and adjust the power usage in the bios.

i made a post about this on guru3d, and no one has responded yet. i did a few experiments with underclocking the card in 2d mode, and discovered that it actually made the card run hotter. at 350/1000, my card idles around 65C (i know this is high, i need to do something about my case cooling). i then tried setting it at 300/1000 and also 250/900 and both of those speeds made it idle at 75C. has anyone else had this experience?

along the same lines, i wondered about setting the 2d voltage to 1.0v or even lower, but i'm reluctant to try it considering if it doesn't work, i don't have a pci card to reflash with.

and finally, does anyone know a way around the linking of the memory clocks in both 2d and 3d mode? no matter what i set either clockspeed to, the memory speed is linked between both modes. i'd like my 3d speed to be 400/1100 and my 2d to be 350/1000, but i can't get those 2 separate memory speeds to stay set.

I checked all options in APM and couldn't find any which would do the job.
Nothing in the control panel.
Any clue?
