Looks like one more die hard nividia fan is switching over to ATI , what happen to Nvidia! they need to take there thumbs out of there @ss. After reading tech reaview after tech reaview. It is just clear that Nvidia is slowly loosing the VGA battle. Well it's clear what brand of card im getting now. now i have a bugget of around $150 + does anyone know about any ATI cards that can beat my ti4200 128mb card (4X) for $150~$160 range? Trying to gear up for Half-life 2 come on guys help a brother out.

Ha, I'll never go back to ATI. I owned the 9700 Pro, and personally, I think the card was ok, but the drivers totally suxored!! So, I traded it back in and went back to NVidia. Now I own the PNY Verto 5900FX Ultra 256Mb. NV out did themselves with this puppy!

I have NO driver problems with the ATI drivers. Sounds like some people don't know how to remove Nvidia driver right. If you get a ATI card make sure that you remove all the nvidia drivers out but if you don't you will have problems with the ATI cat drivers. I have 5 system with ATI cards in them with no problems , moded 9500 non pro to 9700 non pro, 9600 non pro, radeon 64 DDR VIVO, radeon 32 DDR and a radeon 7000 64 DDR. The 9600 pro will be faster than your GF4 TI4200 and the ones with the mem at 660 DDR will be faster but will cost about $180 US

I own 2 nVIDIA cards and 2 ATI
cards. For nVIDIA's, I own the TNT2 32MB PCI videocard and a PNY GeForce 4 Ti-4200 64MB card. For ATI, I own a Radeon 7000 and a Sapphire 9800 Pro 128MB. Obviously, in terms of performance, the 9800 Pro rules the roost. In terms of drivers, however, nVIDIA cards are more stable and has less problems with games. I hear a lot of people saying ATI has better IQ but frankly, I haven't noticed a big improvemnt in IQ when I went from a GF4 Ti-4200 to the 9800Pro. That's probably because I've always used RivaTuner to enable Multi-Sample AA and used Control Panel's Texture Sharpening and Digital Vibrance features.
BTW, when I install a new videocard or any new driver updates, I don't use DriverCleaner like many people seem to do. I do something more thorough and 100% safe--I restore my system to a videocard driver-free state using Norton Ghost. I have an image that contains all my mobo driver files, latest DirectX updates, Windows Updates, software programs, etc, etc, that does not contain any videocard drivers. So, when I restore this image and install a new videocard or driver, I don't ever have to worry about drivers from a different vendor messing things up.
ATI has, however, improved their drivers dramatically but it still isn't up to par with nVIDIA's standards.

I'd have to say that I'd rather own an ATI card over an nVidia card, why you might ask? Well for one, they have AIW's, which I absolutely love. I consider ATI's drivers to be at least on par with nVidia's. Long gone are the days of crappy ATI drivers.

WHy should i get a 5900 when the 9800 pro kicks its @ss in every test . Plus i really don't want to run half-life 2 in DX 8.1 mode becuase nivida drivers can't handle it Read this! . Ive done my reshearch over and over again and it all points the ATI and the 9800 PRO

never tried a 5900ultra/non ultra or 9800pro.
but must state that the shit nvidia released what they called drivers (and i double quote what i just said.)were the main reason i switched to ati have had better quality/performance with what i tried first were 3.4cats even though 3.6 were the latest.
now using 3.7 based omegas and very pleased with them.
the answer to your question i very much doubt i will ever go back to nvidia again so it would be my choice 9800pro if i had the cash to buy one.
also state the 9600pro is my first ati card before i allways chose nvidia co i am another converted nvidiot.
