Thats a good question. I have always been an ATI fan ever since I got my ATI 128MB back int he old days. I have stook with ATI all the way till now...

NVIDIA has good and bad points that i have noticed.

Good points are:

Cheaper to buy $$.
Each driver release makes dramatic performnce hits every time in FPS.
Drivers seem to be more available in terms of Beta releases.
Support from NVIDIA is better when contact is required.
From what i saw at E3, the Doom 3 and Half Life 2 in game performnce runs better on NVIDIA - due to CineFX 2.0 engine and the intersmaple technology.

Bad Points are:

The image quality isnt as good as ATI 9800 PRO.
The benchmark tests in 3Dmark01 and 3Dmark03 are are out by a few %
The retail box doesnt say "Fastest game card in the world!!"

Hope this helps.

mitchelson.

I just bought this card today. It is without a doubt, nothing short of Awesome! Blows my best friends 9800 right out the door. The graphics are so smooth and clear I cant believe my eyes. Anyone with a 59 who has not checked these out. You are missing out.
Dawn Demo
Vulcan
Worth the download

Looks like we Bought the same card Mitchelson. I scored 6045 in 3Dmark03 and 16140 in 3Dmark01.

Maxxypoos give it a shot. Well worth the download. If you can get it to plat you can move Dawn arround by left clicking and right click you can zoom in and out. That's in the Dusk Demo. I think that demo is the best of the three.

Thats wicked Driver 7. I aint met anyone on here that has an FX5900.

Sounds like your rig is better with your 3Dmark scores there. I'm just dressn me PC up for Half Life 2. The cool thing is Mr Driver is that although Valve have identified a bug in the AA for the new release.. it wont effect ppl like us since we will be running the game in 1600x1200! I disable AA no need with thump'n high resolutions. I always have AF set to 8 though

I am damn close to beating rhe high score. I am not all that experienced in overclocking however. But I went out yesterday and bought a new mobo. An Asus A7N8X. Maby today I'll do it.

Cool

I have just ordered some new RAM. So i shall crank my FSB from 190 to (hopefully) 240 I'll drop my CPU multi down to 11.0 and increase da voltage by the next available voltage value and see how we go. If you dont hear from me within the next 7 days, its coz i have fried me system! I mean you just gotta try these things out eh!

Damn Mitchelson. We're almost running the exact same system. But your running PC 3700. Why only 190 FSB? Oh. The 2500+ ?
Is the 3700 what your upgrading cuz thats pretty good ram. You need a faster cpu dont you?
Doesent it suck spending hella on a barton only to end up wanting something better a month or 2 later

Why spend the money on a FX5900 if you already have a GREAT card which is in the same class as the FX5900.
Except for a few minor numbers on the benchmark scores you are not going to see much of a difference.
Save your money and be happy to own a ATI 9800 Pro. It's an awesome card with excellent graphics and speed.

If you do want to upgrade wait at least a couple of generations. Unless you got money to burn then buy one of each of the most expensive cards from different manufacturers and post some test scores
