FX5200 and pcchips/SiS M810LMR mobo ... help required

hey, new here, just got my first geforce card, the FX5200 128MB DDR (made by sparkle, got it from aria.co.uk)

works with agp 3.0 and 2.0, 8x/4x and 4x/2x (although im guessing alot of u know that already)

anyways, i was 'sure' that my mobo (M810LR) was atleast agp 2.0, and could do atleast 2x ..... but im thinking not now that ive had the card in, started up and had it running .. of sorts

first, my puter:

mobo : M810LR (PCCHIP/SiS)
HDD : 20QB Maxtor 52049H4 (master) , 10QB Quantum Fireball CX10.0A (slave)
PCU : Athlon 1800xp
OS : Win XP
RAM : 2 x 256MB SDRAM PC133
old graphics card : 32MB DDR Radeon VE (one im using atm)

nuffing brilliant, but it will do untill i get money for more upgrades, the geforce was start of upgrading/replaceing

heres the problem, the system will boot up ok, and i get to the login screen for windows, but from the login screen onwards all the graphics are 'fuzzy' and 'smeared' and it gets worse around the mouse

i first thought that maybe it was cause of the fact that it was first boot up, so i went ahead and used the installation CD, installed drivers .... and puff! went to a black screen, looked like dos, with just the cursor flashing in top left corner

so, had to restart with da button on the case, decided to start in safe mode, and tried to install drivers again, no go, same sorta thing

then, started normally, was getting those 'report to microsoft' error messages but couldnt read them, thats how bad the graphics were .. i managed, somehow, to get to the nvidia site and downloaded the latest drivers ... installed, puff same problem, hit restart on case

at this point im getting rather annoyed, what with all the restarts and what that must be doing to my hard drive etc so i reinstalled the old radeon card and went looking for help

i got the latest AGP drivers for my mobo, and there was sumthing else, a VGA driver, but i didnt install that as there was no exe, think theres an inf but i dont know were to install it

tried again with geforce but no go, so now im back to the radeon, and searching about for a fix or sum sort of explanation

when i reverted back to the radeon, i got to see the error message that came up at bootup, was sumthing about the nvidia drivers causeing a conflict

oh, and, i did uninstall all the radeon drivers and used detonator-rip to clear out the nvidia ones

there are two things im thinking are the problem:

1. mobo is crap, and is only agp 1.0, im thinking that cause the invoice form the place that built it says 'PC CHIPS MB-M810LR SKT A 32MB 1AGP VGA&SO&LAN&56k M-ATX'

2. the power/votage isnt set correctly, ive heard of voltage problems with cards, especially since this one has its own fan, i have no idea of the voltages on my mobo/agp slot and the mobo manual has nuffing on it at all and the bios has crap all in it options wise, nuffing at all ob the agp settings

think thats it, gratefull for any help or suggestions, and i hope this is even in the correct forum

Looking at the specs on the PC chips site it looks like this is a agp 2.0 slot so should do AGP4x ok.

FIrst thing to do is make sure 100% that agp4x is set as on in bios.

Also if the board also has onboard video make sure its off.

Also make sure you have the latest bios. The board has been tested as agp4x compatible with a geforce 3 so maybe it needs a flash to work on FX's.

If none of the above works try a full reinstall.

Finally you could try the card in another PC.
