nvidia better with nvidia?

My motherboard is nvidia based. Would an nvidia card just 'work better'?
I don't need super high resolutions, I only game at 1680x1050 so I was first considering a 260, but now ati's 4850 looks like a bit better choice. Advice?

theres no difference in speeds if nvidia cards are used in nvidia motherboards vs any other motherboard on the market....

speeds are increased if the PCI-E bus frequency is increased but that is not recommended at all.

and the 4850 isnt as powerful as a GTX 260 but a 4870 is better than the GTX 260 so thats the card you want.

I didnt think there SHOULD be, however i was wondering if any 'real world' tweaking shenannigans had shown up that I should be aware of.

the "tweaking" is just the increase of PCI-E clock speeds that nvidia put under some cute-fancy name like hyperlink or something......

OCing of the PCI-E clocks can cause unspeakable horrors.... just so you know.

it was known as Linkboost, and it has since been removed of the 680i chipset boards. this feature was not introduced into the 780i/790i chipset boards.

but, it shouldn't matter which of the two you use, but it's recommended to keep the two the same for optimized performance and features. like you know....SLI

but, technically, x-fire should work on an NVIDIA chipset MoBo because it's open sourceed hardware or something like that. i've never known of anybody who's had this tried on an NVIDIA chipset MoBo though.
