Is my comp. gonna get fried? :)

First of all...Sorry for posting this here...Idk where the problem is rly...but i think it's my graphics card ^^

Ok...Here's the deal...I just got a XFX GeForce 9600GT 512MB card and I tried to run...guess what...Crysis

So I install the drivers...put the ULTRA-HIGH mod on Crysis...No overclocking (pre-overclocking) and I play for let's see....15-20 minutes...and my computer shuts off...like the power was cut...so I checked the temperatures..and it's rising to 67°+ ... I was affraid to go further ^^

So I ask you...What could be the problem...Here are my specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ @ 2.4GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte S-Series (M55S-S3) Socket AM2
Graphics Card: XFX GeForce 9600GT 512 MB GDDR3
Memory: 4 GB of Kingmax RAM

All the fans are stock fan's...

So what could be the problem?

Please help...I would rly appreciate it..

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

Usually when PC shuts down suddenly there is two options. One is that the system was overheating and the thermal monitors in BIOS ordered shutdown to avoid damaging the system. Two the PSU isn't strong enough to supply power to your system.

Now where you got that +67 temperature reading? Was it the CPU ??
And what PSU you have there?

The reading was on the graphics card.

And my PSU is a CODEGEN 400W.

I think that is ok temperature for that GPU. But you PSU looks a bit weak only 10A on one of the +12V rails.

CPU overheating is the most common cause of unexpected shut downs. The PSU should be adequate for your system, unless it's damaged or very old. What's the CPU temperature in the BIOS after the PC is on and working for at least half an hour?

yeah..i'm considering buying a 500W PSU now...just looking at the prices..shouldn't be a problem

ummm... Is 67+ rly a good temp. for the GPU... :/

another question, does the machine truly shut off, or is it just the screen that shuts off? like, your machine stays powered on, confirmed by the power LED and any other lights on your computer tower, and just the monitor shuts off? Or does the machine truly shut off?

sounds like PSU..
just rule out overheating issues with either CPU or GFX
load Prime95 and run it for a couple of hours...see what happens.
load Video Stability test (Video Card Stability Test - Stress Testing & Benchmark the speed of your 3D graphics video card) to stress GPU for a couple of hours..see if the problem persists..may also wanna install speed fan or rivatuner to monitor CPU and GPU temps..
assuming your comp is stable..if your comp restarts (@acceptable underload temps) it could be either, insufficient voltage or PSU

The whole machine turns off...and it only happens when I play Crysis...so that' why i thought it was the graph. crad..cause Crysis puts pressure on it...but since it is the 9 series..it shouldn't be doing this...

those are just a few of the links i was able to find on the 9600GT, but it seems that your issue is different. I would agree with everybody else here that it does sound to be your PSU if your machine shuts off on you. Also, is your machine OCed in any way? If it is, turn down the OC and see how your machine runs w/o the OC.

Yeah, I heard about that problem...People make mistakes...so It could be something they've done...My machine isn't OC-ed in any way...nothing...there is a wierd thing though...it turns off on me once a day...LOL...I checked the power supply cable and teh power options in the CP and everything is set to Never turn off...

P.S. I noticed that i have 16xQ AA on the graphics card..what does that mean?

Ok, then i'm going to agree with everybody else here saying that it's your PSU not being able to handle the task of keeping your machine up and running.

16xQ AA is 16x quality Anti-Aliasing. The higher the number the better the IQ (Image Quality) when playing games.

P.S. I read somewhere that 16xO AA has an impact on your FPS...I dissagree...I use it in Crysis and it gives me 10-15 FPS boost...Strange...Isn't it?

yes, that is strange. typically the higher the AA/AF (Anti-Aliasing/Aniostropic Filtering) the better the IQ, but at the price of lower FPS.

if you get a gain in FPS, then something is not reporting something correctly somewhere.

No, idea...seems to be working out well...I bought a 600W PSU today...and there are no turn offs anymore....and that gain in FPS while having beter IQ and 16xQ turned on is even better....also...what are the clock limits on GeFOrce 9600 GT before it..you know...get's burned

? Cause I tried to overclock it to 770/1925/1030 and it didn't blow up

your card will generally shut off or clock way down before it "blows up" but you may want to look around at some OCing forums where others have been pushing theirs. My general thing with OCing a graphics card is generally get it high enough to run my games at full bore or as high as it will go without artifacting. I have noticed that some graphics cards like to OC and some just don't and they card be nearly the same as far and make, model and manufacturer so it may be a little hard to gauge *shrug*
