Refresh Rate Fix?

can someone explain to me what this 60Hz Refresh Rate issue is all about?...I have my monitor's 'screen refresh rate' set to 85 Hertz in my Monitor Properties tab (see attachment)...does this mean that whenever I run a game that all my games will run at 85Hz as well?

what are people talking about when they say that the refresh rate resets to 60Hz?...I hear people talking about using 3rd party programs such as RivaTuner or Refresh Force to manually override Windows reverting to 60Hz?...I don't want to play games or even use my Desktop at 60Hz so do I need to use these programs for that or is setting it to 85 Hertz in my monitor properties enough?...Thanks for any help

Is it a TFT monitor or a CRT?

Most of the people you are referring to use TFT monitors. Most (all?) TFT monitors support or only allow 60Hz. On TFT monitors 60 or 85 doesn't make a difference to your eyes. You just don't see it cause of the different technologies.

I seem to remember that there was a problem even with CRT monitors resetting their refresh rate, but that was years ago and my guess is, it is is no longer an issue.

If you have no problems with the refresh rate of your monitor, no reason to worry about it.

so it is no longer necessary to use a program like RefreshForce to fix this issue?

Eh, if you are having problems with it and it changes to 60hz, of course use any program you can to fix it for you. But I wouldn't know since the last time I owned a CRT monitor was in 2001.

Hello,

Here's the program you need. It's called Refreshlock. I use it myself and it works great. Here's the link to it:
RefreshLock download from Guru3D.com
